Smith and Wesson STILL Sucks.
I bought a Thompson /Center Encore 6 months ago, not knowing that T/C was now owned by S&W.
The .308 barrel wouldn’t extract fired cartridges. They machined the groove for the extractor too deeply. I could have / should have fixed it myself, but I’m sick of having to fix nearly every dang thing that I get that was engineered or manufactured poorly.
So I contacted T/C - S&W. For a month they denied that the barrel was theirs. Said that the serial number / SKU was not one of theirs. They more or less accused me of being stupid and/or a fraud, or that the place I bought it (a major mail order distributor)sold me a counterfeit barrel. Then they started ignoring my emails.
So I contacted the distributor, who got them to finally admit it was their barrel, and issue me a RMA.
Sent the barrel back, and two months later I got the ‘repaired’ barrel back. Their highly skilled technician had placed a shim under the extractor. The shim fell out during shipment.
I contacted them again, and demanded a NEW, properly functioning barrel. They ignored me , until I once again got the distributor to contact them on my behalf. After “discussing my case with senior management” they graciously decided that they would exchange it for a new barrel, and issued another RMA.
Fedex confirms that my second RMA was delivered to S&W a month and a half ago. I have no new barrel, no old barrel, which I could have fixed myself, and they are again ignoring my emails.
You can bet that I’ll never buy a S& W product again. Too bad for them. I WAS in the market for a .460 Guess I’ll go for a Magnum Research or maybe a Freedom Arms in .475 Linebaugh
Sorry to hear that.
I don’t and would not sell anything. You know the saying “Opinions are just like a-holes. Everybody’s got one.” I just buy em. I always carried Smiths at work but I’m not partial to any particular brand.
I recently had bolt issues with a new Kahr M1 carbine. I sent it back and Kahr checked it out and replaced the bolt. Works like a gem now.
I’m going to be doing comparison shopping for a M&P 9mm vs. a Glock 19 soon.
