A high-ranking HISD administrator and the principal of Wheatley High School have been charged in Alabama with felony drug possession and, two months later, are no longer employed by the school district.
Dana Bost, HISD's chief of high schools, and her fiance, Principal Ronald Rodriguez, were arrested Oct. 18, accused of having marijuana and cocaine in their rental car while driving in Mobile County, court records show.
The Houston Independent School District sent a message to administrators Monday announcing that Bost and Rodriguez had left HISD. The memo did not mention the criminal charges.
Superintendent Terry Grier said Bost told him Oct. 23 that she and Rodriguez planned to resign the next week to care for aging relatives in Virginia. But Grier said they agreed to stay on the job so they wouldn't interrupt the first semester.
Grier said Bost did not mention the recent arrests, and he was shocked when he learned about the incident Friday.
"Their rationale for leaving just didn't add up at that time," Grier said, noting that they were award-winning educators he had just hired in July.
Grier said he could not comment further because the issue was a personnel matter.
Bost, 49, and Rodriguez 53, were no longer HISD employees as of Saturday, according to spokeswoman Tiffany Davila-Dunne. She said she could not confirm whether the employees resigned or were fired.
Several HISD administrators have had run-ins with law enforcement recently.
The Sharpstown High School principal and two assistant principals were criminally charged in late November, accused of failing to report child abuse allegedly involving students and a teacher.

Be on the look-out, as they could be headed (recycled) to your school district.
The principal of Shadydale Elementary was charged with theft, accused of shoplifting Christmas ornaments last week.
Oh. The Democratic [sic] party approach to Christmas: gimme-gimme-gimme!
A Macy’s shopping spree:
“.....The principal at Shadydale Elementary School was arrested Sunday on a misdemeanor theft charge. An attorney for Daily says the 52-year-old woman put the ornaments in a shopping bag to protect the items and then forgot to pay.
Daily, who makes nearly $112,000 annually, also allegedly did not pay for some cologne, a man’s shirt and two ties. She paid for the items after being stopped by store personnel, but was then arrested, charged and later released......”
We have a Nation with a leader who thinks he’s above the law. Why wouldn’t others feel the same way?
And a U.S. Attorney General who’s an enabler and long time cheer leader of grievance politics.
