You are exactly right. The idea that we are opening up the Constitution to the bad guys’ ideas is no threat whatsoever. The bad guys’ are at the federal level, wield enormous power, want even more money and power, and have annulled in practice any semblance of Constitutional freedoms and rule. A convention of the states brings power back down, closer to the people, than it currently is. If someone is afraid that a convention of the states would propose idiotic amendments, yes, that might happen in Calif., but getting people in 3/4 of the rest of the nation would be impossible. That would not happen even in Greece or Argentina. The runaway convention concept is intended to frighten people away from their own hopes and good. It is diagnostic of someone who is ill-informed or merely wishes Americans ill.
At this time, a majority of Americans value conservative, free, Constitutionally-guided government and many can remember or have read about the old, Constitutional Republic that was the US before 2008. This is the time to rein in the federal, socialist leviathan.
