New Billboard in NYC Says ‘Nobody’ Needs ‘Christ During Christmas’

Just as millions of Americans are preparing to commemorate Jesus’ birth, a secular activist group is once again taking aim at the traditional purpose for the holiday season, asking in a new digital billboard: ”Who needs Christ during Christmas?”

American Atheists, an activist group known for posting its controversial messages on billboards across the nation, unveiled its latest anti-Christmas ad this week in New York City’s Times Square — a 40′ by 40′ display that is sure to rile critics concerned over the so-called “War on Christmas.”

After asking “Who needs Christ,” the digital billboard shows a hand crossing out Jesus’ name with a marker and text that answers the curiosity with a one word answer — “Nobody.” The next graphic tells viewers to “Celebrate the true meaning of XMAS.”

This “true meaning,” according to the billboard, includes charity, family, friends and food — all secular elements that are associated with Christmas. It concludes with the more general “Happy Holidays” greeting.

A press release announcing the new billboard noted that its purpose is to declare that “Christmas is better without Christ.”

“This season is a great time of year for a hundred reasons — none of them having to do with religion,” American Atheists President David Silverman said in the release. “This year, start a new tradition: Don’t go to church. You hate it, it’s boring; you probably only go because you feel guilty or obligated. Instead, spend more time with your family and friends — or volunteer. There are better uses of your time and money.”

American Atheists’ Public Relations Director Dave Muscato went on to say that he believes most individuals aren’t concerned with religious ties during the holiday season and that fun, family and friends are really what observers care about.

.

The 15-second ad is running three times every hour and will be shown in a separate location near New York City’s Penn Station starting next week.

“We all love this time of year. Christianity has been trying to claim ownership of the season for hundreds of years,” Silverman added. “But the winter solstice came first and so did its traditions. The season belongs to everybody.”

Without Christ there will be not Christmas. Certainly not in the religious sense.

However, the Christian traditions gave rise to the celebration that the secular culture uses to its economic advantage.

Without those Christian traditions and trappings, there will be no basis for this holiday continuing. Call it "killing the goose that laid the golden egg."

More commie agitation. They’re as bad as those that force state religion on people, insofar as forcing their religion (state atheism) on the people. They can’t deny what they are now; their actions out them.

If a person determines that he doesn’t need Jesus Christ - then Jesus will respect that and leave that person alone for eternity. So be it, according to the person’s choice.

Better yet, don’t spend money, don’t go shopping. They’ll change their tune.

However, the Christian traditions gave rise to the celebration that the secular culture uses to its economic advantage.

Without the concept of Christian giving, there would be no reason to give anything at all to anyone at any time. "Screw the truly poor and disabled. Let them eat government cheese!"
The economy counts on Christmas sales to stay afloat as well. The libtards would run out of other peoples money even faster than they are now.

I don't think the libtards will ever figure it out. If they keep biting the hands that feed them, they're eventually going to be left alone to starve on their own.

Right. We need Christ every day of the year, 24hrs a day.
By Him along things consist.
Unless they get a brain and heart transplant between now and the grave, the Billboard writers are in for an unhappy surprise. They will be singing a different tune when it is too late.

Philippians 2:10-11 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Unfortunately, ‘fundamentalist’ atheists have no sense of humour. I guess that happens when you don’t think there is anything better than, or after this life. I can understand such grimness, such a life of quiet desperation. If ‘fundies’ had a sense of humour and the ‘tolerance’ they so desperately claim, the could easily celebrate ‘Festivus’ and let others celebrate Christmas.

Exactly, but I bet they will be surprised when they find themselves in hell.

Every time I see or hear about one of these atheist grabs for attention I visualize a bunch of happy kids who are playing a traditional childhood game and having fun. On the outside of the group an angry, red-faced brat is screaming at them “I wanna play a different game! Stop playing and do what I want! Stop! Do you hear me? Waaaaaaa!”

Atheists Are Well-Organized Hate Group
MARCH 24, 2012 BY JP

ATHEISTS GATHER TODAY IN NATION’S CAPITAL.
I was in Washington, D.C. this past October for the annual Values Voter Summit. When I pulled up to the host hotel, I was dumbstruck to find a group of atheists staked out at the front entrance, mocking the summit’s preponderantly Christian attendees.
Such in-your-face confrontations by atheists are becoming increasingly common. In fact, atheist activists bear many of the characteristics generally associated with a “hate group,” as defined by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the accepted authority on the subject.
The Center says a hate group is “an organized group or movement that advocates and practices hatred, hostitility or violence towards members of a race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or other designated sector of society.”
That pretty much includes the atheist movement.
And its hatred and hostility toward the faith community is front and center this weekend in the Nation’s Capital, where a coalition of atheist organizations is hosting the American Atheists National Convention.

This stuff always amuses me. Can you think of a better working definition of futility than spending money for a billboard telling people not to believe in something? I mean honestly, do they imagine someone walking down the street saying "Hey, I was on the edge but now that I saw that sign I guess I don't believe in God anymore"? Seriously?

Well, speaking as an atheist who celebrates the secular aspects of Christmas, I do so because it's fun. I enjoy giving and getting presents, putting up a tree, watching Rankin-Bass specials, and having Christmas dinner with friends and family.

That having been said, I find the efforts of this group absurd. I couldn't care less whether someone celebrates Christmas with or without religious aspects...or, for that matter, whether they even celebrate it in the first place.
