It didn’t take long for Washington to find a replacement for departed coach Steve Sarkisian. On Friday the Huskies tabbed Boise State’s Chris Petersen as the program’s new head coach.

The news was first reported by ESPN’s Joe Schad on Friday.

In a statement, Washington athletic director Scott Woodward formally announced the newest era of Husky football.

“On behalf of the University of Washington and the entire Husky Nation, I am proud to welcome Chris Petersen as our new head football coach,” Woodward said. “Coach Petersen’s success and record are extraordinary, but even more impressive is the man himself. His integrity, work ethic and character make him an outstanding fit and leader of our student-athletes at UW. We are thrilled and proud to call Coach Petersen a Husky.”

When he was riding high in Boise he chose not to leave. Now that the program is down a bit he decides to move on. He may be a good fit there in Seattle though.

He doesn't like too much media pressure. He'd never go to a school like Florida or Bama or Ohio State or USC or any of those....UW is a perfect fit for him in that way. Now let's see if he can break the Boise State coach paradigm.

Are you referring to Dan Hawkins?

Not to be a sourpuss but does that mean we’re going to have another batch of coaches bail on their players right before a bowl. I’m a USC fan so I’m glad there is someone permanent in the seat now but I’ve also played team sports and would be ticked if a guy I came to admire and trust left like that.

Hawkins/Dirk Koetter/Houston Nutt all ended up failing pretty hard after leaving Boise.

The entire state is mourning; especially at my house in eastern Idaho. Went to the Boise-Nevada game this year...truly a fun experience going to Boise football games.

Our son and his family are in the area and they're avis BSU fans. My wife and I got interested in the team about 7 years ago and now my wife is a fanatic. She's going to be heartbroken...she love Coach Pete.

We live in VA Beach...it never ceases to amaze me that any time we wear any BSU gear someone always comes up and expresses support.

When you have a profession supported by a bunch of shyster layers as agents, the answer is "probably".

It will be interesting to see who replaces coach Peterson...and the team is so young this year, next season they should be back in the rankings.

The wife and I try to go to one game a year...it’s a fun weekend for us...shopping, good restaurants, and great football.

We’ll miss you coach Peterson.

Thanks, I didn't know his personality background. He is a very good coach. Recall his gutsy play calls against Oklahoma.

Speaking of Florida, Washington should have gone after Dan Quinn, who was our Defensive Coordinator in 2012, before becoming the Seahawks' defensive coordinator this season. He was the ONLY reason Florida won 11 games in 2012.

Florida should have grabbed him.

They would've, but their offensive line is garbage and their quarterback kept dropping him.
