MSNBC's Alter Suggests Releasing Criminals from U.S. Prisons to Honor Mandela

On Thursday's PoliticsNation, MSNBC political an analyst Jonathan Alter played the liberal caricature by actually suggesting that, in light of former South African President Nelson Mandela's passing, Americans should practice "forgiveness" toward "hundreds of thousands of people" who are serving life prison sentences. Speaking to host Al Sharpton, Alter suggested:

So my question tonight, Rev, is can we import that spirit of forgiveness and apply it to the hundreds of thousands of people incarcerated who, for the rest of their lives, you know, will be stigmatized by this. Could we figure out a way to forgive them, maybe expunge some of those records? Release some prisoners who, with three strikes and you're out, you have, you have people who have been there for so many years.

I wish. I have a brother who believes that all prisons should be eliminated. We don’t talk much these days.

Let’s start small - 200 violent criminals can be released on the condition they live within 2,000 feet of Jonathan Alter’s home. If Jonathan lives in a single family neighborhood - zoning can be changed so 20 violent criminals can share the same house... I’m sure his neighbors will be thrilled.

He was quite a guy, wasn’t he? Even some FReepers admire him.

Those of us who feel compassion toward minorities can have only one caring response: NO!

How could they suggest doing this to the (mostly minority) residents of the (mostly minority) neighborhoods into which these (mostly minority) convicted felons - rapists, murderers, and armed robbers - would be released? Women and children of color would be hardest hit by this racist proposal.

Why don’t they just put tires around their necks and light them on fire? Wouldn’t that be a better tribute?

THIS JUST IN: Nelson Mandela is still dead.

Yeah, let’s make jokes at a Lefty’s demise for a change.

So long as the prisoners are all released to The Hamptons I’m all for it.

He’s not truly and sincerely dead.

Just merely dead.

Well, to be fair, he did become mellow in his old age. And his wife Winnie directed most of the necklacing.

Hideki Tojo was also a doting grandfather and Adolph Eichmann was a doting father . . . but both still got to exit this life through a trapdoor wearing a hempen necktie.

Yup. A terrorist passes away, and the left think that the best way to honor his passing is to immediately empty our prisons.

Sure Baldy. What is your address? We’ll do a pilot program at your house. You house, feed, clothe, and care for them. PUT UP or SHUT UP.

I guess I’ve been harsh about the poor old man. Hey, if Obama admires him, who am I to criticize?

I have a better idea. How about identifying hundreds of thousands of these criminals currently in prison, and across the board adding 27 years to their sentences.

I don’t know what they’re smoking over there, but I...no, actually, I don’t want some. It’s making them say some messed-up stuff.

Jonathan Alter is still roaming the streets unescorted? I thought he left with Bill and hillary. How about the courts releasing OJ and Charlie Manson in his care.
