I assume the powers that be at the airlines have already done their math. The problem when they looked into getting the wheels spinning before touchdown was done decades ago and wasn’t scrapped due to weight issues, spinning a wheel, even a airplane wheel in flight doesn’t remotely need the kind of force that moving a plane does on the ground. If memory serves the problems were related to getting the wheel spin correct for the speed of the plan and consistent for all the wheels etc... but this was long ago so my memory may be wrong.
Believe me, I am sure the powers that be at the airlines are doing their math before green lighting anything to make sure it truly is saving them money. With the margins they operate on these days if it can’t show a cashflow benefit it wouldn’t get done.
