Mine started with the attack to retake Hill 10 outside Tam Key Vietnam. Damn, that was the loudest cacophony I’ve ever heard in my life.
It seems to have gotten better over the years though.

it does not matter what kind of hearing protection you wear..
when your head is 4’ away from the exhaust of a military jet at full power just before they shoot if off the deck, you are going to have hearing problems for the rest of your life..
my tinnitus is the high pitched roar of jet engines, it never goes away..
