Tinnitus varies, and the cause varies as well. Myelin sheath degradation is just ONE cause.

Same here. I can hear all the real sounds I want, AND the tinnitus ringing—it simply becomes the background noise.

My tinnitus began one day when I suddenly began losing hearing in my right ear, coincidentally that's when I also began having migraines, thirty two years later the hearing loss has become acute, I still have migraines and the tinnitus varies from light background to screaming loud and in thirty years no physician has had a answer as to why. But the one thing for certain, I am not depressed, pissed off yes but not depressed.

Aspirin will definitely exacerbate tinnitus, and may cause it to be PERMANENT.

Use ibuprofen or acetaminophen instead..........

I didn't know that. YIKES!!! It would be a terrible thing to have permanently. But I guess you know that.

Dang, I’m screwed. I literally had no idea. I’ve been taking on average about 1800 mg of aspirin a day for years and only recently started noticing the constant ringing, and the volume goes up right after I take some.

Let’s hope you have not done any permanent damage. I’d lay off the aspirin for a month, using alternatives like ibuprofen, and see if it goes away. ......

I wore double hearing protection every time we fired a weapon or when around noisy equipment. I was near end of my term with zero percent hearing loss then a knucklehead cracked a hatch while a harrier was taking off, my right ear is still screaming 23 years later.

mine was on the flight deck of aircraft carriers...

it does not matter what kind of hearing protection you wear..

when your head is 4’ away from the exhaust of a military jet at full power just before they shoot if off the deck, you are going to have hearing problems for the rest of your life..

my tinnitus is the high pitched roar of jet engines, it never goes away..

Pepto-Bismol is bad also, with the bismuth salicylate, and even naproxen sodium (Aleve), an NSAID similar to ibuprofen, can give me some tinnitus for a day or two.

You must be very sensitive to the salicylate type medications.............
