“Original” was for the first class of 29 of them. Wikipedia said another approximately 300 were codetalkers and another site said 420 total.

If the code talkers wanted the name changed, I would stand with them and ask for the name to be changed.

I have no problem at all... with these Redskins supporters, I applaude their efforts then and now--

However, I will not take back one word... I have ever said about the Deadskins!

Sure Wikipedia could be wrong, but in this case it appears that I simply misunderstood which group they were referring to.

Actually the US Army first started using Indian Code Talkers in WWI, and then continued the practice in all theaters during WWII, the Army used them as it did the bulk of the fighting in the Pacific, in North Africa, and in Europe.

“”The name code talkers is strongly associated with bilingual Navajo speakers specially recruited during World War II by the Marines to serve in their standard communications units in the Pacific Theater. Code talking, however, was pioneered by Choctaw Indians serving in the U.S. Army during World War I. These soldiers are referred to as Choctaw code talkers.

Other Native American code talkers were deployed by the United States Army during World War II, including Cherokee, Choctaw, Lakota Meskwaki, and Comanche soldiers.””

"They’re still heroes."

Yes they are, and I'm proud to call them patriots who love their country.

Note that all of these men look like the real Indians they are.

They don't whine and bitch like the usual "partially Indian" liberals do.

Cher, Elizabeth Warren, Ward Churchill, ad nauseum.

THOSE folks I simply ignore.

Americans vs. Communists! If we could remove the commies from our education system our nation would soon right itself!

I just love when some favorite victim group of the Left goes off script and the libs turn purple. They just can’t stand when their victims refuse to be seen that way. Anyone of these warriors only needs to tell one of these lilly-livered liberals “Listen sonny, just shut and sit down, ok? I made it through this life and went to Hell and back for you and don’t need you deciding what gets me riled up or not, thank you’’.

Roy Hawthorne, 87, of Lupton, Ariz., was one of four Code Talkers honored for their service in World War II during the Monday night game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Hawthorne, vice president of the Navajo Code Talkers Association, said the group’s trip was paid for by the Redskins. The four men met briefly with team owner Dan Snyder but did not discuss the name, Hawthorne said.

Still, he said he would endorse the name if asked, and the televised appearance in which three of the Indians wore Redskins jackets spoke for itself. “We didn’t have that in mind but that is undoubtedly what we did do,” Hawthorne said when asked if he was intending to send a statement with the appearance. “My opinion is that’s a name that not only the team should keep, but that’s a name that’s American.”

Sadly liberals are not American.

I believe the Redskins got their name because they were “sister” franchise to the Boston Braves and shared Braves Field with them. Back in the early days of the NFL there were teams like New York Yanksees, Brooklyn Dodgers, the Chicago Bears shared Wrigley with the Cubs, etc.

Actually, if Snyder decides to get rid of the name Redskins, Code Talkers might be a good one. Oh, and keep the same mascot.
