'The Professionals star Lewis Collins has died aged 67, his agent said.

The actor, who played Bodie in the crime drama alongside co-star Martin Shaw, died in Los Angeles yesterday after a five-year struggle with cancer.

The Professionals was a huge hit on ITV in the late 1970s and early 1980s and made Lewis Collins a star, along with Martin Shaw with its memorable theme tune and action-packed plots.

Collins's other most notable role came in 1982's Who Dares Wins, when he played a member of the SAS. He was born on Merseyside and worked as a drummer in local bands and as a hairdresser before getting into acting.'

“Who Dares Wins” (aka “The Final Option”) was a decent movie. It was about an SAS operator who infiltrates a lefty terrorist group and the movie ended with an SAS assault (a la Operation Nimrod) on a hostage situation in which many bad guys are killed.

Lewis Collins applied to join the Territorial SAS as well, and managed to pass selection, but he was rejected because he was too famous by that point.

Was a British Paratrooper, and passed the SAS selection test. I think that evens it up.

Bodie and Doyle were ‘the Beatles’ of TV

‘The Professionals actor Lewis Collins, who has died of cancer aged 67, was the quintessential British hard man.

He was best known as Bodie, the series’ co-lead character: A former paratrooper, current womaniser and eternal bruiser.

Director Ian Sharp worked with Collins on The Professionals and, later, the British film Who Dares Wins - where the actor played an undercover SAS officer.

Among his other projects, Sharp also directed the action scenes in the James Bond film Goldeneye, the first starring Pierce Brosnan.

He shares his memories of working with Collins.’

A real hard man: Accepted by the SAS, Lewis Collins was even tougher than his legendary role in The Professionals...and, amazingly, he almost joined The Beatles

Well he wasn’t a homo or anything.

Still it’s much more dignified to call yourself a barber than a hairdresser.

RIP, I was not familiar with his show.

It sounds like he may have made a good Bond but I liked Dalton in the role.
