Rudy Giuliani: Mafia Offered $800G to Kill Me

Rudy Giuliani has claimed that the mafia in Italy put an $800,000 contract on his head while he was mayor of New York City.

Giuliani, who was praised for his leadership during the 9/11 terrorist attacksy, revealed to Oprah Winfrey on her OWN cable-channel show "Oprah: Where Are They Now" that as a former prosecutor he was a target for criminals who he'd put behind bars, especially mobsters.

"I don't think anybody prosecuted more mafia members than I did," said Giuliani, who was U.S. Attorney before becoming the mayor from 1994-2001.

"Certainly, no one sent them to prison for the lengthy periods of time that I did."

Giuliani, a Republican, said that a contract to kill him was put out by the Sicilian mafia the first year he was mayor.

"They offered $800,000 to kill me. Then, toward the end of the time I was the mayor, a particular mafia guy who we convicted and put in jail for 100 years put out a contract to kill me for $400,000."

Giuliani, who turns 70 in May, added with a laugh, "I kind of felt bad that I went down in value. I started at 800, I went down to 400."

But, he said, he never was that concerned about threats from members of organized-crime gangs.

"Now, when we start talking about Islamic extremist terrorism — that worries me more, because they are suicidal.

And then he went into hiding on Broadway in drag!
He still has political goals.
Expect him and every rino out there to swarm in 2014 and 2016.

The mob should have passed the hat around here back in ‘08 - could have hit 7 Bills easy...

He did a great job as mayor NYC in 1990s.

Recall after mayors Koch and Dinkins the conventional wisdom was a that a city that big could never be straightened out.

NYC was really a basket case under Dinkins.

I agree. He would have been a kick azz American president. He knows how and when to tell you-know-who to get lost.

Before all the anti-Rudy people come around: I DON’T CARE!!!

It sounds possible to me. That is not a huge amount nowadays especially for the mafia.

Any other office?
No.
What is “good” for NYC isn’t good elsewhere.
While he did some things right, his stance on the 2nd amendment is flat out wrong.
He is a rino.
And rinos are what brought us the current president and political climate.

Nice to hear somebody using the “G”, slang for a thousand dollar note instead of the “K”.

The Mafia doesnt put out 6 figure contracts out on anybody. They’re cheapskates. They wouldnt pay out that kind of money to anybody for a hit. Never have. Especially when they can get one of their underlings to do it for free.

ROFL. He was good for NYC, which has always been a progressive city since the Founding. He was a law-and-order type who was in the right place at the right time. But I wouldn't want him as POTUS.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a retired senior law enforcement officer some years ago. He had worked on some high-profile organized crime cases in New York City in his day.

I told him it must have been dangerous to go out and arrest a mafia bigwig like John Gotti with all the bodyguards and protection he has.

"The police don't go out and arrest people like that," he said, "We just call his lawyer on the phone, and within an hour the lawyer brings him into our office without any trouble at all."

I was pretty astonished at how "respectable" these organized crime figures have become. When dealing with the outside world, the last thing they want is trouble.

Yes, he was. The best. Was there when he was US attorney. I have a big heart for him.

He’s not conservative, but I wouldn’t call him RINO. He doesn’t go in flyover.

Look at Al Smith, very interesting story.

Christie is the same, so far as not going in flyover. But Christie is RINO. He’ll do ANYTHING.

Rudy was not like that. He ran NYC. With love, I guess. He had his favorite baseball team, and he went with it, never wavering. I guess that says a lot about a politician from a multi team city. Don’t fake that.

Anyway, he was the best NYC mayor ever.

I always use G, and wonder while doing so.

Is it a NY thing, like Kwaffee?

Anyway, when talking about the Mafia, I guess they appreciate it if one uses G not K, not that Rudy has to do anything to please them. He really went after them.

It’s a great story

And I’ll bet he’s got some stories.
