Installed his own BROTHER as Attorney General. Hardly the sign of a great man.

Exactly. Add to that family mob connections stuffing ballots for him in Chicago as an unrequited favor.

Eisenhower was a crappy president. He gave us Earl Warren and William Brennan, two of the worst SC judges ever. At least Kennedy gave us Byron White.

Good grief. How bad are you if Jimmy Dunce Carter beat you out!!!

Nixon can blame his own bad judgement for ranking below Carter.

He could have been remembered as one of the greatest Presidents we've had on the foreign policy front (though not on the domestic front: he was fiscally liberal). Instead, he chose to scuttle his reputation by covering up for a moron who organized a strategically useless break-in. If Nixon had just come out and said "Look, I made a mistake, I hired a loose cannon and a buffoon to work on my campaign staff" and cut Liddy loose, he would have stayed in office until Jan. 20 1977, and would be widely regarded as the elder statesmen in "realist" foreign policy until his death.

JFK didn’t have ‘distinguished’ military service…Don’t be fooled by the gratuitous PT 109…. read the real history and you will find that JFK was a piss poor boat commander and nearly got all of his men killed

Eisenhower remains one of my favorite 20th century Presidents for giving us Joseph Swing and "operation wetback." Meanwhile, over a century later, leaders of both parties debate the best way of pandering to the same people with amnesty and handouts.

Can you point me to some books or articles on JFK’s military service? I had always been under the impression that while most of the Kennedy myth was a bunch of self-serving bunk, his military record was entirely honorable, not having read anything to contradict it.

True, especially on fiscal issues. Then again, all of the "liberals" from 50 years ago would be considered ultra-conservative today.

“...JFK’s military service? ... his military record was entirely honorable”

I’ve heard that even his older brother, Joe, Jr., criticized/teased him about the circumstances of the PT109 issue. Seems there would have been no incident if JFK had been competent in his job. Not sure of the details — just something from the back of my mind I’m recalling.

I agree with everything you said. Even though I was only seven when he died, I've read and listened to some of his speeches and interviews. I think JFK gave the country real hope, and made, not only us, but the world believe America was special. Barry seems to want Americans to be ashamed of our country, and have the rest of the world hate us.

As a Georgian, I'm soooooo happy Carter has been knocked out of worst President spot. Pop the Champagne, praise G-d!

Many of the “liberals” 50 - 70 years ago were staunch anti-communist fighters. Now all liberals ARE communists.

In post 26, “over a century later” should have been “over HALF a century later.” Eisenhower was a bit before my time, but not THAT much before my time!
