It shows how little has changed. If reporters want to support a politician and the politician gives them a little access they'll create the most ludicrously inaccurate image for the politician.

The reporter could have found out a lot about Wilson from his colleagues at Princeton and by looking into the controversies Wilson got into there, but didn't bother to do the digging, and relied more on personal impressions.

IIRC, Lincoln as a wartime President didn’t have a very sympathetic press. Cartoons depicted him as flummoxed, burr headed, and the same height as his critics/opponents.

All that changed after he was assassinated. Same-same JFK.
