Last night I listened to Savage play 8 year-old clips of harry, biden, bama, kerry et al. bemoaning the prospective loss of the filibuster, as they were in the minority at the time. Were the Republicans, some of them, angling to do away with the filibuster at that time? What provoked so much wailing and gnashing of teeth, or was it a false issue that the Dems used to try to embarrass the then majority party?

They floated the idea of the nuclear option in response to the ‘rats denying all of Bush’s judicial appointees.

The Republicans threatened the "nuclear option" in 2005 but backed down--when the 'Rats were blocking President Bush's nominees. Of course if the Republicans had done that, the mainstream media would have excoriated them for it, instead of hailing it as they are doing with the Democratic move yesterday.

When the history of this era is written, the Reid coup of 11/21/13 may have the same significance for the consolidation of power by the Democratic Socialists of America as the Enabling Act of 1933 did for the National Socialists of Germany.
