WASHINGTON — Many doctors are disturbed that they’ll be paid less – often a lot less – to care for the millions of patients who are projected to buy coverage through the health law’s new insurance marketplaces.
Some have complained to medical associations – including those in Texas, California, Georgia, Connecticut and New York – saying the discounted rates could lead to a two-tiered system in which fewer doctors participate, perhaps making it harder for consumers to get the care they need.
“As it is, there is a shortage of primary care physicians in the country, and they don’t have enough time to see all the patients who are calling them,” said Peter Cunningham, a senior fellow at the nonpartisan Center for Studying Health System Change in Washington.
If providers are paid less, he said, “Are (enrollees) going to have difficulty getting physicians to accept them as patients?”

If we don’t have enough physicians to treat those who currently seek medical care without long waits, the solution is to add 30 million more insured - and pay physicians less per patient. Then physicians will work longer hours???
One doesn’t get more doctors in our society by deciding to pay them a lot less!
This time they see a huge mess and can not get any answers as to when or how much they will be paid.
All the patients out there need to be talking to their doctors and find out what is going on with them.
My Niece is serving her medical internship.
She owes $160,000 dollars for her education.

The federal government has agreed to pay hospitals around the country hundreds of millions of dollars not to train doctors in a highly unorthodox initiative aimed at alleviating a growing glut of physicians.
The initiative, embedded in the new federal budget agreement, extends to all 1,025 of the nation’s teaching hospitals an offer similar to a controversial experiment approved for New York earlier this year.
That experiment, which will pay hospitals in that state $400 million over the next several years while they gradually decrease the number of young doctors they train, drew an outcry from teaching hospitals elsewhere that felt New York had wangled a lucrative special deal. Their protests attracted the sympathy of congressional Republicans who decided that, instead of trying to block the money for New York, they would expand the opportunity nationwide.
The payments represent a rare attempt by the federal government to use subsidies as leverage to shrink a particular work force. “I know of no profession where there has been as much federal effort to regulate,” said Uwe Reinhardt, a health economist at Princeton University. “You don’t do it for economists, for architects, for engineers.”

I am not sure that millions will be buying coverage through the marketplaces and those that do will probably not be able to find a doctor accepting new patients, making the ER problem even worse...just like Massachusetts...
Looks like it will be worse than even Medicaid. I doubt that many independent primary physicians will take it because their schedules are already full. Cut rate patients are a dime a dozen, and most primary care docs would rather see if they can get more self pay patients instead.
It will be worse than Medicaid or Medicare from the provider's point of view because of those (typically) large deductibles. The provider's front office will be forced to demand the deductible be paid up front (at least to cover the projected cost of the visit), yet many subsidized insured won't be able to do this. Thus, cancelled appointment. This applies to elective procedures in hospital as well; where the trend is to require up-front deductible draw-down.
Get ready for the influx of third world Drs.
A friend who has a sister living in Denmark, says the Danes don’t go into medicine, as there is no money to be made so, Drs’ come from every where else to administer medical care.
Go to the VA and you’ll see all the third world doctors you’ll ever want to see. And if you find a white person, it’ll be a miracle.
My wife just went to an arthritis doctor for her knee. He didn’t even examine her. He sent her for x-rays and ordered some neurological tests to see if that was causing the pain. What the hell is that all about?
She hasn’t been able to find an orthopedic doctor who will take medicare. This crap is about to get worse than we could have imagined.
Righto. The big story early next year will be that the 0-care patients will be refused treatment if they don’t pay their deductible up front and in full.
The Leftists will counter by demonizing “greedy” doctors and hospitals which will predictably backfire and cause more hospital closings and physician retirements.
