Some D.C. Exchange Plans Cover Elective Abortion but Not Hearing Aids
The National Review ^ | November 19, 2013 | Betsy Woodruff

Multiple individual plans available on the D.C. health insurance exchange specifically cover elective abortion but not hearing aids, routine foot-care, and routine eye-care. One such plan, Healthy Blue PPO $1500 (you can check it out on the DC Healthlink website here), has a summary on the D.C. exchange’s website titled “Excluded Services & Other Covered Services.” It says enrollees can receive coverage for abortions performed for a non-medical reasons, but not for a number of other services that could seem medically necessary. The plan also excludes coverage for some other procedures, including cosmetic surgery, bariatric surgery, and infertility treatment.

Per Anna Higgins of the Family Research Council, in D.C. Aetna plans and multi-state plans run by the Office of Personnel Management and offered by Blue Cross Blue Shield specifically don’t offer elective abortion coverage. All the other plans offered in the District do cover elective abortion. When she wrote about the issue in October for TownHall, representatives from the D.C. exchange told her that plans were required to cover abortion because it was an “essential benefit.” That’s incorrect, however, and the exchange later retracted the statement. The Affordable Care Act specifically states that abortion is not an essential benefit, so not all plans cover the procedure....

Multiple individual plans available on the D.C. health insurance exchange...

...insurance "exchange"?

As used here, my FRiends, "exchange" is a euphemism

The correct word?... Health insurance COLLECTIVE!

A lot of diabetics develop peripheral neuropathy, and Medicare will pay for custom insoles and shoes. But a person who has the same condition that is not a diabetic has to PAY for their own custom insoles that are $300 and last about a year, not to mention the specially made deeper shoes that the insoles have to go in.

No difference in the disease, just in who has it. Discrimination is what it is termed.

I get mine for free from the VA. That reminds me, the pair I have now are almost worn out.

And these Asshats are calling our former plans “junk.” Vesuvius is about to blow and they don’t even know it. The utter gall that they think it will stick, ramming this down the throats of the American people. Wonder what the compromised Chief Justice thinks now?

I wish my insurance paid for my hearing aids. I don’t think any plan does, but I understand the point here. What if I lose my hearing due to irresponsible behavior? Will they pay for it then?
