Good article on the damage to the Subaru plant, here:

It’s nice to see that Subaru is finally doing well. Those ads must be working. I had no idea they were producing Camry’s too! Obviously I’m behind the times. But that makes sense, given the cooperation on the BRZ / FR-S project, which I did know about.

So sorry to hear of conditions in Kokomo ! Are you all right? Did you have property damage?

I think a tornado did pass through the south side of Lafayette hitting Southwestern middle school, the the old Elmsteel plant , and then the SiA plant. This would have passed just south of us.

Stay safe!

I’m fine here. We lost power for about 9 hours, and the base took some damage, but it was very minor compared to Kokomo.

I worked at Subaru many moons ago. I was only a temporary worker as I couldn’t get hired to work directly for them. If you ask me, their placement program sucks. But, they do make a great vehicle and if I ever had the chance to buy one I’d do it in a heartbeat.

Well, this is seriously OT: A friend who runs an independent but VERY professional auto repair shop says Subaru for a long time was slow getting replacement parts out, but that is getting better. So hopefully they are improving all around. Certainly they’ve figured out an effective advertising campaign, and that plus “word of mouth” gathering steam, and the liason with Toyota, all seem to be coming together.

I could not afford a new Outback, so I bought a used one. It’s had a couple issues, but not unusually so, at 107k miles. What I do know is that with really good snow tires on it, the Outback will go almost anywhere most large 4WD/AWD SUV’s will go, will leave some “stuck” behind, and yet it’s a quite good “driver’s car too” if you like a feeling of great control and handling in the turns. The ride on poor roads is surprisingly good, too. It’s not a rocket, but that was never really the idea. The idea is that my wife no longer questions whether we can take an iffy road in the nearby National Forest or local wildlife management area(s), yet she likes the “fun” aspect of driving it, too.

On the other end of it, I’d REALLY like to test drive a BRZ, but I know I can’t afford it now. So, why tempt myself. But that’s ok: I’ve had a slightly juiced up Mazda MX-3 for many years now. :-)
