When I started reading the story I expected her to be found alive in contradiction to earlier belief or determination that she was dead. But it appears that the headline should have read: “’Outpouring of love’ for woman who died while allegedly buying drugs.”

Clonazepam addicts snort the drug because it’s the fastest way to feel the effects of it. Users crush the pills prescribed by the doctor or purchased illegally, and then place it on a flat surface. They roll a piece of paper or use a small tube to inhale the powder into their nose.

The effects of the drug can happen immediately or take a few minutes. It depends on the person and his tolerance level for the drug.

Addiction to Clonazepam

As tolerance for the drug increases, so does the dosage a user must snort to feel effects from it. Over time, users must significantly increase the dosage, which can lead to accidental overdose. Snorting is the most common way to abuse the drug. So when people resort to snorting clonazepam rather than taking it in pill form, even this delivery method is a strong sign they are addicted.

RE :”Were you buying drugs at the time?”

If I was I'd have been wearing my seat-belt so I dont get another $25 fine. I hate being pulled over by cops.

Thing is that it’s really for controlling seizures. If you don’t have them, it will give them to you.

I think for some people, the side effects of Ambien can be very strange and dangerous.

I am very careful not to exceed the dose, and most of the time, I take half a dose (5mg) instead of the whole dose.

I would think that if you took a 20mg dose, that could be quite a different experience, and not pleasant, either.

I do have some drowsiness in the morning, especially if I don’t take the dose until near midnight (and get up at 0500) but I don’t get the sleepwalking or hallucinations or anything like that.

That I know of...:)

I disagree. People who have chronic pain (and I have had it) will take painkillers to get rid of the pain.

If you have intractable pain, there is the temptation to take them whenever you want to get rid of the pain (such as when you are trying to sleep and pain keeps you awake.)

Few things drive people to the edge as much as intractable pain and the inablity to sleep.

I can easily see someone who doesn’t have an addictive personality getting addicted to painkillers because they take them pervasively every night to sleep.

There are a legion of stories of men who suffered injuries in combat, and were given morphine over a long period of time to the point they were addicted. They might not have had addictive personalities, but were addicted nonetheless.

I hear what you are saying, but that isn’t always the case.

You are not addicted. You are under treatment. Oxy addicts want to take Oxy, pain or no pain. If you had no pain and were taking pills, you would be an addict.
An addict does drugs to keep from coming down, not because they have a medical reason, just like a smoker only smokes to keep from going through nicotine withdrawal.
“Addictive personality” or not, the key to stopping the addiction is to quit doing it. It’s very easy to perform, it’s just very hard to decide to do and keep doing it. I smoked for 10 years and I quit by refusing to pick up another cigarette

Yes, but you have the character not to get addicted to it.

Character is destiny (not fate).

The obligatory:

“She did not seem like the type of person who would get into trouble.”

“She was like a little mom”

“was studying at the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago and was learning to play guitar”

They dont mention an uninvolved third person but that statement could only be made by someone watching the front seat {Johnson} and the back seat {Ms W}. Appears to me to be she thought she was being ripped off and sitting with the door open and the dealer being scared trying to get her out of his car then the accident.

People are flawed, and addiction is a choice when you boil it down. But to paraphrase Captain Queeg in “The Caine Mutiny”, “There are choices, and there are choices”.

My dad, a standup guy, was a functional alcoholic nearly his entire adult life. He was able to kick it about ten years before he died, after several unsuccessful tries (that I knew about) Was that a character flaw? Sure. Did he have character? Yes, in spades. But he wasn’t perfect. None of us are.

And people can get addicted without abusing a drug. I speak from experience...I was given enough demerol on a steady basis during an extended hospital stay (almost lost my hand to an infection from an animal bite)to induce withdrawal symptoms which were particularly unpleasant since I had no idea what was going on. Now, I was physically addicted, but not mentally, and I didn’t want to go out after I was discharged and find Demerol to take. But I can see people not being as fortunate as me.

I do agree with you that it is a “choice”, and I will not make excuses for addicts, but I don’t think it is an excuse to see the reality that it isn’t just a character thing. Once you are in the throes of addiction, character is a harder thing to harness to fix the problem.

I got addicted to drinking carbonated beverages like CocaCola and other caffeine-laced liquid refreshments. I didn’t realize it until I got the shakes from not drinking it at my regularly scheduled time.

Kinda freaked me out once I figured out what was going on.

I dropped that habit immediately.

As Christians and Jews we should pray for her soul. Yes, she went afoul of virtue and and good conduct and she paid for it with her life. But she is in God’s hands now and none of us is perfect. She made mistakes like many young people do before they learn through life experience to become good citizens. She harmed no one but herself. May God show her mercy.

Heh, if you don’t drink caffeine, it can be startling.

I never ever drank coffee, and one time driving straight through from Cecil Field in Florida to my home in Massachusetts (after working an entire night shift) I decided to try No-Doze...and began popping them down around the New Jersey Turnpike, with no effect. I took more.

Then more.

By the time I drove through New York City in my MG at rush hour, I was a frikking maniac, flipping the bird, grinding my teeth, sweating, changing three lanes at a time...

I was completely unhinged! It scares me to think about it, and...you can buy it right out of vending machines!
