Pentagon reports 46 percent rise in military sexual assaults

In the military combat arms units it is ridiculous to make them out to be like co-ed dorms.

And all the sensitivity training in the world will not dull a GI’s libido.

Instead, most of the 46 percent hike can be attributed to “victim confidence in our response system,” the Pentagon made clear, United Press International reported.

Back during the Cold War when the AVF and large numbers of women in the forces were both pretty new I remember during REFORGER discussions about the need to post an officer or senior NCO with any female soldier assigned to the unit guard point to protect the female soldier from being raped by soldiers from US Army units transiting our area during the onward movement part of the exercise. Sentries did not carry loaded weapons .This was an unwritten but well known exercise lesson learned. Black soldiers mostly from CS and CSS elements were the most notorious perpetrators of these rapes. That fact could never be officially reported. Identifying rapists was very difficult because of the trauma to the female soldier and the perpetrators were from other units from as far off as CONUS. Some soldiers were caught using duct tape to cover their name tapes and to obscure unit patches. Nothing much other than taking their names and units and recommending their unit commanders be notified was done and I doubt other than one older and very angry LTC that any such notifications were made. Female soldiers were abducted during each REFORGER and found with their BDU trousers cut off them and tied up and gagged in the woods . Rapes happened very fast and there were obviously groups of soldiers mostly blacks, in transiting units who were specifically ‘hunting’ isolated female soldiers. None of this was ever acknowledged by the chain of command.

I wonder if the same sort of things are going on today?
