Obamacare works by chaining Americans to local providers [costly, substandard care]

Obamacare generates profits for the federal government by blocking Americans’ ability to get high-quality advice or services from outside their local area, according to health care experts.

The Obamacare-compliant health benefit plans usually only pay for services within each citizen’s local region, said Dr. Scott Gottlieb, a former government health care official and an expert at the American Enterprise Institute.

Throughout 2014, the small regions will help regulators and executives narrow the variety, quality, number and cost of medical services available to at least three million Americans who already had plans on the individual market and are now being forced into Obamacare.

“They’re very narrow plans, they’re a throwback to the 1980s-style HMOs,” Gottlieb said.

“The majority of plans do not offer care beyond their regions,” said Yevgeniy Feyman, an expert at the New York-based Manhattan Institute.

“What this effectively does is limit the quality of care that some people are able to get,” Feynman said. “The more rural you get, the worse it is going to be,” he added.

Has everyone forgotten Hillarycare and what it involved. I would remind you that Hillarycare planned to assign local doctors to everyone and punish those who sought healthcare out of their area.

Not much difference, except that I don’t think that Obamacare goes as far as proposing punishment for seeking care outside the area.

We’re in a world of instant mobility. On Monday I’ll be two thousand miles away in the big city where people get shot. What if I need to see a doctor there?

Obama care is a stepping stone to free heath care for all.

It’s designed to fail and cause outrage among the young.

Liberals work a long game, they are happy with poor players and one yard gains

We Conservatives are 100 yard each play or nothing players.

They win, daily,

This will force the very practitioners already needed in those areas to relocate to areas where their kids can get the best healthcare. Another death spiral.

Seems like that would violate the equal protection clause if care levels are different in different regions.

That’s interesting, I was just wondering about that when I was typing about Hillarycare limiting the choice of doctors to the geographic area near you. I was thinking that of course most of the specialists and best doctors are inside the cities, where the top hospitals are located.

So, not only does it limit your choice of doctors, it charges you more for the privilege of having lower quality care.

Of the roughly 2,500 counties served by the federal exchanges, more than half, or 58 percent, have plans offered by just one or two insurance carriers, according to an analysis by The Times of county-level data provided by the Department of Health and Human Services. In about 530 counties, only a single insurer is participating.

Also, Gen Blather, I assume you might have PPO health insurance — coverage anywhere— as do I.

After the employer mandate kicks in, PPOs will become a relic from saner days. Also, many employers will be throwing their employees into the exchanges.

“Obama care is a stepping stone to free heath care for all.”

It is the worst sales pitch I’ve ever seen; now that Americans are learning that “free” isn’t free at all, it will be hard to convince them that they aren’t being charged for it in a roundabout manner (through sales, income, property taxes and such). I’d think people will insist on a return to the “before-times” before they accept another fiscal raping at the hands of the Dems.

Hope so, everyone, I mean everyone here in the very rural area I live in, has to travel over 150 away to get decent health care for anything but a broken arm.

~~~~~~~~~
EXACYLY!
Doctors limited, hospitals limited. Many hospitals will not participate in ObamaCare (keyword “obamacarehospitals”).
Aside from that, Bronze plan (cheaspest of ObamaCare plans) are not only costly. They have high deductibles, out-of-pocket, & co-pays).
Varies from state to state which will make it more difficult to assess what an economic catastrophe this is going to be on the economy as a whole, let alone for individuals and families suffer a major healthcare crisis.
People are talking about the political ramifications. No one has really grasped the scope of human suffering that will result from this naked political power grab.
From what I have seen you'll be one of those people the Democrats used to feature in their advertisements about how anybody could go bankrupt as a result of an illness or injury.
It is hard to get detailed policy documents, but the materials I have seen say that you'll be covered for urgent care or an emergency room visit. But not for any further care. As far as I can tell that means you are out of luck if you need to be admitted to a hospital, or see specialists.
Obamacare generates profits for the federal government by blocking Americans’ ability to get high-quality advice or services from outside their local area,
Citizens (Peons) will soon require a special permit to travel outside their authorized areas....just like in the old Soviet Union.
....and hows that going to work for truck drivers....inquiring minds seek to know.
Almost. Without any insurance coverage it may be near impossible to get any medical care outside the area, particularly if the type of care you are seeking is going to be very expensive for the hospital or doctor. You can probably negotiate to pay cash for a one-time visit with a specialist, but it is unlikely a hospital will want to admit you, or one of your kids, if they see that it is likely your case will cost more money than you can possibly afford to pay.
When it comes to seeing specialists or going to research level hospitals for serious problems, most people except those in a few big cities will be uninsured under Obamacare, even if they have a gold level policy.
I doubt the equal protection clause will be helpful. But once people realize they aren't really insured under Obamacare, even if they pay the premiums, I think the public will demand a better approach. Also, making a larger portion of the population effectively uninsured will cost hospitals that specialize in complex cases money. Turning away sick people, and sick children won't be good press for places like Cedars Sinai, or Los Angeles Children's Hospital.
In New Hampshire you can't even count on the nearest hospital being in the network, so you'll have to drive past the hospital and keep going to get to somewhere that your insurance covers.
In California, the Anthem plans that cover Riverside and San Bernardino don't provide benefits at the hospitals in Los Angeles. So if you need a specialist there you are out of luck and uninsured.
