(AP) FDA to ban artery-clogging trans fats By MARY CLARE JALONICK Associated Press WASHINGTON Heart-clogging trans fats have been slowly disappearing from grocery aisles and restaurant menus in the last decade. Now, the Food and Drug Administration is finishing the job.

The FDA announced Thursday it will require the food industry to gradually phase out artificial trans fats, saying they are a threat to people's health. Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said the move could prevent 20,000 heart attacks and 7,000 deaths each year.

Gee per the CDC, An estimated 15,529 people with an AIDS diagnosis died in 2010

Guess the Government needs to look into addressing this to prevent twice as many deaths!

Most commercially sold baked goods contain trans-fats. Will be interesting to see what, if, anything will be used as a replacement.

KFC tasted better when it was fried in beef or pork lard.

Ditto McDonalds fries.

Maybe they’ll go back to how they cooked them in the ‘70’s and we’ll enjoy the improved taste?

just a thought - but what if the Feds caused all homosexuals to go into programs designed to eliminate the lifestyle? Think of the thousands, if not millions who would not get aids and thereby not die! think of the lives saved. (I do get delusional from time to time)

Last week I was joking that next we are going to see government mandated food purchases ala Obamacare...and wadda ya know, heeere we go. Don’t tell me: Mooshelle is going to declare what grocery stores we can go to and what we can buy or face a fine.

Colonel Sanders was appalled at what John Y Brown did to his recipe and never endorsed since it was sold.

LOL. I just remember how it tasted when I was a kid. Hasn’t been good for the past 25 years at least. Certainly not worth the caloric expenditure.

I quit eating Mickey D’s fries when they switched to vegetable oil, too greasy and slimey.

Yeah, they really suck now. I found making my own FF just spraying cut potatoes with Pam Olive Oil and oven baking does it for me.

Although it is a noble pursuit to reduce the factors that reduce human lifespan, one wonders if some of these efforts only prolong the problems until later years. A person could be kept from arterial disease by all kinds of preventative measures. However, science has not determined if all the preventable measure don’t just put off the disease until later years. At those later years, there are other progressive physical problems that the human body encounters. Some of those problems have no medical solution and do have quality of life issues. Is society willing to give aid to a population with increasing quality of life issues as greater numbers live to later years? Or, is this a set-up for euthanasia?

Oven baking is great isn’t it? My kids love oven baked sweet potatoes. I put the fries on a pan with a small lip and dollop 2 or 3 tbsp of coconut oil in and about them and then bake. Yummy.
