President Barack Obama traveled to North Texas Wednesday to thank those working to help Texans sign up for coverage through the nations new healthcare plan and to call on Republican Gov. Rick Perry to do more to help those without insurance.
He brought his defense of the controversial healthcare law to Texas, the largest Republican state where officials oppose the program as well as any expansion of Medicaid.
Theres no state that actually needs this more than Texas, Obama told a crowd of about 150 gathered at Temple Emanu-El, where volunteers work to enroll others in the healthcare program, before heading to two high-dollar fundraisers geared to help Democratic senators seeking re-election.
But he noted that efforts to carry out the healthcare law can be especially challenging here in the Lone Star State, prompting a woman at the event to shout, Were up to the task!
At one point in his remarks, Obama referred to Perrys stance as bullheadedness. ....
Perry maintains that expanding Medicaid isnt the right move and turned the attention back on the president.
President Obama deceived the American people by promising that anyone who liked their healthcare plan could keep it, but millions of Americans are now discovering that simply isnt true, Perry said in a statement. Now, hes coming to Texas in a desperate attempt to salvage his ill-conceived and unpopular program from a Titanic fate by preaching expansion of the same Medicaid system he himself admits is broken.
In Texas, where Medicaid already consumes a quarter of the state budget, we simply need the flexibility to implement fundamental, state-specific reforms to our Medicaid program, instead of a one-size-fits-all Washington mandate, before it bankrupts our state, he said. Mr. President, Texans arent the reason Obamacare is crumbling; Obamacare is the reason Obamacare is crumbling.

I see it as sticking to principles and doing what is right.
...and, yet, he is working on a plan to make unions exempt from it. Puke.
Just because Perry didnt drink the Koolaid and take the dangling carrot diesn’t mean he’s bullheaded. Maybe he sees right through your scheme and kniw nit to trust “your kind”.
150 people?
Did a tree fall in the forest?
Barry is doing the one thing he’s good at, campaigning. Luckily for Texans they have a governor who is actually good at governing.
Obama destoyed my health care and terminated my health insurance. His nerve in trying to weasel out of that lie and tell anyone what to do is breathtaking. I don’t know how they keep protesters away from him at a public event, but if he comes within 100 miles of me I fully intend to do a Joe Wilson on him and shout “You lie” to his very face.
Wow, that's a humiliating turnout. What happened to the packed crowds?
Hahaha! Got my attention, too. THE biggest state in the union and they had 150 people there. LOL Hilarious.
Oh boo hoo somebody won’t go along with Barry.
Expensive trip to speak to 150 people. You KNOW that staffers never want to put the President up before such a small crowd if they can help it.
for the two posters who mentioned the big turn out of 150..thanks for the chuckle it was the first thing I thought when reading the article...
say what!!!!! obama can’t BUY a larger crowd in Texas..bet Perry will have a few words in answer to him, at least I hope he does...
REPUBLICANS NEED TO LEARN TO FIGHT BACK ON THIS JERK...
ahhh...four posters...
As far as governors go, where BO is concerned, there are two choices. One is loving on him at the arcade, skipping along in the evening at Point Pleasant Beach, flipping the bird to the rest of the country and its founding principals and then there’s snubbing BO’s destructive ideas and being lambasted by his panting press.
One or the other.
There’s no in between.
I’m sure most Texans, for whom Perry works, are just fine with his choice.
The above is an inaccurate statement - EVERY TEXAN IS BULLHEADED WHEN IT COMES TO COMMUNIST MUSLIM HUSSEIN OBAMA.
I have lived through many presidents, and never have I seen a president who actually wanted this country to fail but Hussein does everything in his power to make it happen.
I see it as States rights.
