Blue Shield delays health plan cancellations

Blue Shield policy holders facing cancellation of their plans have been given the option to extend their coverage another three months.

The company is canceling more than 100,000 policies because they do not conform to the federal Affordable Care Act.

Blue Shield originally was going to stop the policies at the end of next month, but company spokesman Steve Shivinsky said people can now choose to keep their coverage through the end of March.

"The Department of Insurance required that Blue Shield provide this option to subscribers and we were told that if we did not agree to this action, there was a possibility of legal action against us," Shivinsky said.

California's insurance commissioner Dave Jones said Blue Shield initially gave policyholders just 90 days notice about cancelled plans. They are required to give six months notice.

Blue Shield said the affected policyholders must decide whether to extend their current health plan by December 6th. Otherwise, the company will transition them into a new plan that's compliant with the Affordable Care Act on January 1st.

FUBCBS!!! The insurance companies heard “30 million new customers” and sold their souls but now they know they are about to have a net loss of paying customers.

Yup. The pressure is on the insurance companies to explain themselves. The propaganda war isn't going well for Obama and he needs to persuade the insurance companies to change their minds. Make them an offer they can't refuse.

Yeah, a net loss of 100% when the fascists ram single-payer through.

Looks like it's the CA commissioner who gave the instructions.

But I bet it was Jarrett who called him and told him to do so.

What would happen if Americans across the board simply boycotted Blue Cross and dropped their plans (compliant or not)?

Would Blue Cross go bankrupt?

I think they will eventually go bankrupt anyway... why not sooner than later?

The insurance companies should join forces and challenge the law for its attacking their very ability to exist. Obamacare’s is clearly in every way destroying the insurance companies and establishing a government monopoly over all Americans’ health care.
