But there’s one thing - fer sure - you can bet your life on!

I guess if you expect the cavalry to ride in, that might be enough. But he looked prepped to be in an extended SHTF scenario and for that, his preps were pretty worthless. He and his family would be doomed.
I’m not claiming *I* am properly prepped for a SHTF scenario, but people do have to realize that building a community, long-term skills, and having people you can trust and count on is worth as much if not more than a year’s worth of prep food and a stockpile of weapons (that only one person in his party could use). And having his fuel exposed where any passer-by can see it or steal it? Stupid.
Also having to go outside to get to your bunker seemed like a poor design. But its easy to critique I guess, harder to think through everything.
