Local voters head to the polls

WAYNESBORO — Voter turnout at Waynesboro’s Ward D precinct inside Westminster Presbyterian Church has been good this morning, though down from the last gubernatorial election, an election officer said.

“It’s been fairly steady,” said Andrew Shifflett, the precinct’s election chief. “It’s not been quite the turnout as it was four years ago.”

Just before 10 a.m., 600 of the precinct’s 3,748 voters had cast ballots.

None of the local incumbents for House of Delegates or elected officials in Staunton and Waynesboro have opposition on the ballots.

The chief competition is in the statewide races, lead by the governor’s race between Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Democratic businessman Terry McAuliffe.

Thank you! We have a lot of good solid counties with high numbers. Unknowns of Campbell + Botetourt cancel out Charlottesville, and chip away at Alexandria and its sisters.
