29 years later, Cuba hijacker wants to go home
Grand Island Independent ^ | MICHAEL WEISSENSTEIN

William Potts burned with the desire to change the world. Nothing really turned out the way he planned...

... he returned to the United States and in 1984 he concealed a .25-caliber pistol in a plaster cast and hijacked a plane to Cuba, among the last in a flood of dozens of self-styled revolutionary hijackings. To Potts' surprise, Cuban authorities didn't offer him guerrilla training. He was convicted of air piracy and imprisoned for more than 13 years.

Now, 29 years after he changed into a black beret and leather jacket in a plane bathroom and hijacked more than 100 people on their way from Newark to Miami, Potts is optimistic that he'll soon be heading home. He said Friday that U.S. officials in Cuba are processing a passport application he submitted earlier in the week and they have told him it could be completed in a matter of weeks.

Wait until he finds out he’ll have to sign up for ObamaCare. He might turn around and go back to Cuba...

Please tell me that there is still some US law on which he can be prosecuted for which the Statute of Limitations has not expired.

He has already been indicted in the US for air piracy, so the statute of limitations is a moot point.

What? He didn't like the Workers Paradise of Cuba? He didn't like their fabulous healthcare?

Now, if Obama doesn't prosecute him because Progressives/Liberals like Hijackers, he can try the ObamaCare Website!

He’s trusting Cuba to let him leave.

Because, lets face it, Cuba was getting too free for him, and obama’s America, well, not quite repressive enough yet, but the trend looks encouraging...

And give him a teaching position alongside Bill Ayers.

I’m sure Cuba can’t wait to send him packing. One less demented foreign mouth to feed.

Do we have to take this idiot back?

If Cuba really wants to send us one of our criminals back to us, give us Joanne Chesimard. The family of the police officer she murdered in 1973 are overdue for some justice.

The Castro Brothers routinely ship us boatloads of people who can testify to the conditions in Cuba. They really don’t seem to care much.

He's divorced from the mother of his two children, a math professor, but they still live together and consider themselves married.

Unfortunately we seem to lack any legal mechanism to strip such people of their US Citizenship, and he has apparently never renounced his. So the Passport Office really has no options.

Well if he can't keep that straight then he won't do well with the legal system.

IIRC, this was the idiot that also robbed some of the hijacked passengers. A couple of them were Cuban intelligence (DRG) and he wasn’t welcomed to Cuba with open arms, just loaded arms.

I’m sure he just wants to be a productive member of society, get a job, etc. Does Obama have any cabinet positions open?
