PARAMUS N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Police responded in force Monday evening, as an active shooter was reported on the rampage at the Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall.

Police sources told WCBS 880′s Steve Scott there was still an active shooter at the mall as of 10:15 p.m. No details about injuries were immediately available.

Law enforcement sources initially said people had been hit, but it was not immediately confirmed whether anyone was.

A SWAT team was seen storming the mall as of just before 10:30 p.m.

Shots were fired inside the mall beginning sometime before the mall in Paramus, N.J. closed for the night at 9:30 p.m.

The man firing the shots was reportedly walking around in full body gear and a helmet, with an assault rifle.

An estimated 200 police units were on the scene, and a mass-casualty unit was required.

A witness tweeted that a shooting happened “over by Nordstrom on the second floor.”

Pauly Walnuts was returning a suit and some punk challenged him.

The more people try and ban guns, the more they create soft targets for these wackos.

These wackos know where to go to encounter the least resistance.

Paramus is in Bergen County which is one of the wealthiest counties in the country. Besides Nordstrom, one of the anchor stores is Neiman-Marcus and there are other high end retail stores in the mall.

Not to cheer random nutjob shooters, but I wouldn’t at all mind the higher-ends of society getting their trees shaken good and hard. It’s always a good thing for the wealthy to be reminded from time to time that for all their money and trendy trappings, they are as equally vulnerable as us. Their froo-froo fashion shops with ‘no guns allowed’ are a target range to anyone with hostile intent.

“Stay tuned for more staged shootings EVERY DAY this week.
I assume we’ll see them.
I assume the shooters will be carrying Rush Limbaugh’s new book.”

That is funny. Reminds me of an old episode of “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” The local cops were trying to pin a murder they’d committed on the town’s only black guy. They left a bottle of Geri Curl and a Marvin Gaye album at the murder scene. :)
