Part of the problem with Food Stamps and its funding that the eligible income limit levels have been raised to a point where some on Food Stamps are not really as much in need as others, so budget cuts to food stamps get spread equally, falling hardest on those getting them who are most in need.

What is clear is (1) if the eligibility requirements did not change and (2) in as much as the 2009 stimulus was meant to ONLY help out during a recession, and prices do not normally go up during a recession, and (3) people already on food stamps were not faced with higher food costs more than the rest of the population (for which a smaller increase than 135% in Food Stamp funding might have been in order, then (4) most of the increase was (or was it???) based on the expectation of more people falling to and under the income eligibility limits, and thus adding to those already qualified and for that reason - additional folks meeting the same earlier income limits, due to the recession.

So, now, four years after that temporary inccrease was done, it is being cut back, so what is the cause of cut back in how much each beneficiary csn get?

The decrease in the rolls, expected to result from all the government stimulus and how it was going to improve the economny - produce more jobs - did not materialize (at least not in the numbers expected).

The expectation was that the numbers on the benefit will fall back closer to previous levels once the Obama recovery took hold. Who is to blame for that?

Additionally, some states (New York for instance) no longer (since???) are looking at savings, investments, IRAs & 401ks. etc - money socked away - in judging eligibility, although the federal SNAL website says it is still part of eligibility. That’s fantastic for someone who wants to get out of the rat race, downsize their lifestyle, let their restirement accounts percolate and just not earn above the income levels for food stamps and Medicaid, and apply for both - the rest of us will take care of you while your retirement acconts keep earning their dividends. How nice.

Food stamps cut? And, you are believing that people are being hurt as a result?

Here’s the solution. Why don’t you head uptown, walk around and ask who was hurt by the cut. Hand each of them a $50 bill. Go home and feel good about yourself. Because, THAT is the way charity should work.

There are many food banks who will pick up the slack if it comes to eating or not.

We have a fabulous one in my town.....all the grocery stores contribute vasts amount of food.....no waste for fresh products either as that which begins to spoil is picked up by a pig farmer.

My mom raised all four of us after my dad died from war injuries....

She got ‘surplus food’ to offset what she couldn’t purchase with her waitress job and selling Avon door to door....she made most of our clothes....and this while getting her nursing license to better herself. Thereafter landing a job at the County Old folks Home which she retired from.

We didn’t know we were poor....my mom hid her struggles from us very well.

I don’t believe they’re actually complaining...I think this is a Democratic ploy as usual.

Nothing. Kept my belly full as a kid when it was needed and my parents are two of the most GENEROUS people on the planet. They have given back to others in MANY ways once they financially could, through church and community.

We always joke about Grandma feeding all 12 of us on one boiled potato and whatever roadkill Grandpa found that day, LOL!

I miss the America I grew up in.

And THIS was inner-City Milwaukee - back in the late 50’s, early 60’s. Gone. Gone. Gone. My old neighborhood is Latino Gang Bangers now. In less than 50 years! But it was 50 YEARS of Socialism, mind you. *SPIT*

Either way, you’re right. I’m tired of it, too.

But I’m just your Typical Whitey...expected to foot the bill for everyone and anyone that votes themselves a handout.

I sure miss America.

so his pension is probably a mere $120K or so

Yeah. How can ya live on that?!

Certainly not in the Manner To Which He's Accustomed.

He could move 40 miles east of his current location and be just fine. Never need a dime of welfare.

Can't have that, can we?

I was at WelfareMart and Kroger yesterday. None of the food stamp crowd seemed too upset as they threw bags of crab legs and tiger shrimp into their carts.

They do not look at prices so I figure they pay scant attention to what is loaded onto the cards courtesy of the taxpayers.

Thing is, my husband and myself use one of those little carts because we cannot afford such gluttony.

One less bowl of cereal a week for his boy, one less sandwich a week for himself

No, he got an extra bowl of cereal and an extra sandwich because of the TEMPORARY stimulus boost. Now, he's back to normal. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.

....once less bowl of cereal a week

Why do people get paid for writing this garbage? I just read the sidebar of a box of cereal, and it contains 8 servings. Eat a little less each day, and a box of cereal will last over a week. Even if it did mean 1/7 of the money is gone, a person would best compensate by eating 1/6 less each day to have food for the seventh day.

Besides that, people aren't feeling any pinch yet. They'll do what they always do. They'll buy food this month until their credits run out; it isn't real money. It's authorization for a transfer of money from government to grocery stores, with the banks doing the transfers making huge profits.

So anyway, let's say someone doesn't plan ahead and runs out of credits, then a little later runs out of food. Not everybody will run out of food at the same time. It will not cause rioting, just a little less eating.

Besides that, kids won't starve. They get free breakfast, lunch, and healthy snack in school. Maybe they should also get some lessons on writing a budget and writing a food plan that they can afford.

How about comparing their “loss” to the losses the average people have taken in the last 5 years and how much more they will have to spend on insurance with ObamaCare??

The “baby daddy” has some fault so this guy could cut him out and get the food stamps the kid qualifies for.
The stamps are worth twice wht it cost to feed the kid so that’s a 100% profit. Plus having the kid qualifies him for many other welfare ‘benefits’.

The ones most likely to be hurting from this small reduction are the people that buy stamps from this guy at half price. He’ll probably sell less IMO though there might not be much elasticity in booze and cigarette demand.
