What happened to prosecutions for Chinagate? Solyndra? Freddie Mac; Fannie Mae, defense contract overruns? The list is endless. Why did all of thee occur?

Because politicians needed the money for re-election. Tax breaks, contracts, grants, conveyances, allowances, takings—everything government does is for the benefit of politicians’ re-election campaigns. If it doesn’t buy them votes, they won’t do it. The term “political whore” is redundant.

-——The term “political whore” is redundant.——

The term political whore has no basis in the current scene.

The first premise must be “the democrat party is a criminal enterprise”. What you consider as whores are actually thieves. All the items you listed are actually a series of pipes and valves used to drain of the treasury. The crime is grand grand theft treasury.

” Getting mad at some retired building inspector or an old cop doesn’t solve anything.”

Maybe not, but they are the place where the money is going. We seem to be unwilling or unable to scale back current benefits outlays, even when they are unreasonable. Waiting to cut the future retirees benefits rather than dealing with the immediate expenses is courting financial disaster. At the end of the day, with liberal “judges” siding with the retirees, the only avenue the cities have is bankruptcy with all it’s additional expenses for lawyers and accountants. And it isn’t just Detroit or Cincinnati, its virtually all cities. And the bigger they are, the worse their financial problems.

And they contractually earned it with every hour spent in the presence of their employer.......

There's no difference between cutting their earned pension benefits and me deciding to only pay you half of what you charge me to put in a new furnace........

You'll likely take me to small claims court and it won't take a liberal judge to rule in YOUR favor......

And just how was their “contract” negotiated? These are not “contracts,” they are government-sponsored bribes. Where I live, “public safety” employees can retire at 50. As a consequence, we have had two Fire Chiefs “retire” in the space of three years. In each instance, their near $200k working salaries went up to nearly $300k in retirement, plus lifetime healthcare for them and their spouses. Do the math. These payments are unsustainable. If these guys live to be 80 ( a good bet with their Cadillac healthcare) they will each cost the taxpayers $10 million. I am suggesting that unless these benefits are scaled back to some reasonable amount (in these cases, maybe $100k per year) so there will be money available for others to retire and for enough money to do the ongoing job of just running the government and providing the requisite services.

Just curious, what exactly does "Cadillac healthcare" provide to someone (65 and older) who is Medicare primary?

Here in California, public employees are covered under a state-run system. You know, you are not forced to take Medicare, it’s an option. There are some caveats, though. You have to remain a state resident in retirement to maintain the health part of your “retirement package,” but it’s well worth your while.

Then Maybe you should try to change it.

Instead of bad mouthing those who work for a living and try for better wages and benefits. Run for one of those offices.

jealousy is a terrible thing to waste on FR, use it to get yourself in a position to change it.

I am old, living off the money I put away in savings. I do not have a pension plan (other than a 401).

I am not Jealous. I have managed to save enough for a comfortable retirement and I will be dead and gone before the parasites kill the host.

So if you are one of the parasites sucking the blood out of taxpayer sorry your feelings got hurt.

Last, I live in California. Even if I ran for office and even if I was the best candidate for the job I could not win because I am not a Democrat.

I noticed you did not deny that the fix is in between government unions and the politicians.

One last thing, the keyword in FreeRepublic is “free” which means I can express any opinion I want and if you don’t like don’t read it

Thank you for your time and have a good day.

Local government employees shout that unions are the problem, when they know that lobby organizations for municipals and counties are much more of a problem. Unions are a problem but we don’t need to have administrators and special employees of podunk towns and counties scooping up hundreds of thousands of dollars each year and becoming ever more immune to the law.

Big government is the problem. It’s the regulations against new domestic competition.

The law was changed.

Localities now have to fund the pensions they promised with real money, not empty promises.

almost the entire population of the united states is to blame.

The United States people have decided to go into debt now in order to spend now.

That is what the majority of people want and that is what they are getting, a good time now while stealing from the future.

“what happened between then and now that they are no longer viable. ? “

Most pension plans assumed an 8% rate of return on investments and that was the norm for most of the history the USA.

Thanks to QE to infinity, pension plans (along with other savers) the rate of return on investments is about 2-3 % in stocks, hard to say with real estate and 2-4% in bonds depending on their rating and duration.

When you plan on getting 8% and instead get 3 %, the pension plan becomes rapidly insolvent.

Clawbacks are all the rage with ponzi schemes and fraud.

How about making the elected officials and the public unions responsible via claw backs if the pension projections are not met.

The problem is that the people responsible are often long gone before the SHTF. Now, if we could attach liens to their estates, that might work.

Better to term limit all politicians. Incumbency is the single most corrupting influence of or entire political system.
