US President Barack Obama has accepted "full responsibility" for ensuring the troubled healthcare website gets fixed.
Speaking in Boston, he said he was "not happy" about the glitch-laden project, but made a full-throated defence of the broader 2010 healthcare law.
Earlier, his embattled health secretary apologised to the American people over the botched website rollout.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is the largest overhaul of the US healthcare system since the 1960s.
Commonly known as Obamacare, it aims to extend health insurance coverage to the estimated 15% of the American population who lack it.
But a key element of the law, the federal website where consumers can shop for health insurance plans, has been plagued by errors since its launch on 1 October.
'The model works'
Mr Obama said in Wednesday's speech: "There's no denying it - right now the website is too slow. Too many people have gotten stuck. And I'm not happy it about it. And neither are a lot of Americans who need healthcare."
He added: "So there's no excuse for it. And I take full responsibility for making sure it gets fixed ASAP. We are working overtime to improve it every day."
He spoke in Boston, Massachusetts, a state that in 2006 introduced a groundbreaking healthcare law that inspired the Obama administration's own nationwide overhaul.
"Massachusetts has shown the model works," he said.

Really? You used the phrase, ‘full-throated?’ ROFLMAO!
Oh Gee ... that makes me feel soooo good.
He also took a swipe at Republicans, who view the legislation as a costly, cack-handed and inappropriate government intrusion into healthcare, and have sought to undo or undermine it at every turn.
“If they put as much energy into making sure the law works as they do attacking the law, Americans would be better off,” the Democratic president said.
What a puttz.
PS - I thought he didn’t know. He doesn’t know anything ... nobody tells him anything. Goes play golf.
If DimocRats spent as much time reading the legislation as attacking Republicans.. uhhhh...
It does this by destroying the health care of the 85% of the American population who have it.
Except for government workers, members of large labor unions, and members of certain favored religious groups.
This is called "responsible government" by people who believe themselves to be smarter than the average American citizen.
I'm glad he said that. I seriously doubt that it's going to get fixed anytime soon.
Designed to fail, epically..
Long sign-in wait times
Insurance account creation problems
Slow page loads
Inadequate testing of security controls prior to system launch
Crashes in data hub linking Obamacare system to Internal Revenue Service and other federal agencies
Inadequate server capacity
other than that, it’s spinning like the media.. uhhh a top
Wait! Kathy Sillybus said in a hearing today that SHE’S responsible for the screwup.
Perhaps they’re BOTH responsible?
Perhaps a contest could be held to determine, once and for all, who is the MOST responsible?
Thanksgiving is the 28th of November this year..
Just think of all those who will be working to fix this pig at Overtime rates over that holiday and beyond to get this stuffed turkey on the table by year’s end, if then.
I expect that kind of desperation will result in more mistakes. I hope. But I think it’s bound to run into more big “glitches” in any case.
Worth emphacizing, although lack of security controls is mentioned, this act that penalizes Americans who are attempting to live within a budget and don’t think they can afford it by expecting payment of tribute ... also is already being cruised by scam artists hoping to tap skimpy bank accounts through identity fraud, phony debit card charges, etc.
Saying you take responsibility for something is not the same thing as actually taking responsibility for it. Anyone with even the most elementary concept of leadership would know this. But not Obama.
Obama may well go down as ‘The Glitch that stole Christmas’
He should be taking full responsibility and apologizing for the entire Obanmacare debacle.
I would be willing to bet that there have been more golf outings by Obama (148) since he became President than there have been people who successfully signed up to one of these exchanges through the HHS website.
Full responsibility for a dumbocrap means finding the right target to blame.
Why didn't someone say, "if you've taken full responsibility, then resign!"?
You attack the law, you putz. You've changed it how many times?
>> And I take full responsibility for making sure it gets fixed ASAP
Taking responsibility for a future event, but not a past failure. Typical.
Would this be the same as the full responsibility he had for getting it right in the first place, or some new kind of full responsibility?
The deductible is primary. Once satisfied, then the copay kicks in.
ROFL. That makes it sound like it works, just slowly, eventually. Not working at all means it just don't work.
No responsibility for the failure, but full responsibility for the fix (in case it actually happens, I suppose).
A Battle Royale?
How a loser leave town cage match? :)
He takes responsibility for fixing it, not for the failure itself. More weasel words from the weasel in chief.
What does “taking full responsibility” mean to a politician?
People are working overtime and getting paid at least double time.
“He takes responsibility for fixing it, not for the failure itself. More weasel words from the weasel in chief.”
Obama to the rescue, I guess. Ugh!
Another unfulfilled promise from the clueless Obama.
Steely: "It does this by destroying the health care of the 85% of the American population who have it."
Sums things up pretty good...
Then B. Hussein Obama will pull a backdoor salvation by telling everybody that if we had single payer, this kind of failure would not be happening.
Single payer will become the new "law of the land".
Reminds me of Janet Reno/Bill Clinton - who really was responsible for Waco?
Neither of them and both of them in each instance.
Depends on the meaning of what "responsible" is.
Umm, wasn’t there the report recently that even WITH OCare, there will STILL be ~15M uninsured (the same amount they said the ACA was supposed to cover)?? IE: Bring down the system for NO drop in what is to ‘fix’
