Cruz does nothing more than to state the obvious.

I watched portions of the show today. Boo Hoo.

The permanent chip on certain shoulders was on full display. There was no shortage of luminaries. The funniest was a black law prof from Harvard.

The world's once most deliberative body gets down in the weeds over that which is supposed to be left to the states.

If the senate wished to know the background of FL stand your ground, all it had to do was invite a legislator or two from FL. Duh.

Here’s a great opportunity for Mr. Cruz to say nothing, a conversation best not engaged in.

You’re mixing him up with Mitt Romney or Chris Christie.

The confrontation between George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin was not a “stand your ground” set of circumstances.

But it WAS an act of self-defense. Zimmerman did not pull out his gun until AFTER he was getting his head bounced up and down on the concrete sidewalk, which he perceived as a life-threatening situation.

For all the talk of controlling “bullying” in schools, Trayvon was sure acting an awful lot like a bully. Physically more imposing than Zimmerman, and approaching with an attitude of “teaching that creepy ass white cracker” a lesson, Trayvon was definitely the assailant.

And that is what bullies do - they assault. Often with minimal provocation. Or none at all.

It’s all particularly obnoxious since the stand your ground law had nothing to do with the case. If you are attacked you are in a situation beyond standing your ground or running away.

It was a great opportunity to state the obvious, which Mr. Cruz did and, unfortunately, what too few people are willing to do today.

Take the stand your ground fight to Detroit and watch their argument crumble. Detroit leads the nation on Justifiable Homicides and about 98% of those are blacks defending themselves from blacks.

That’s what the headline says, but if you read what Sen. Cruz actually said, you would find out that he told her the case had nothing to do with SYG.

He will be misrepresented for the next 12 years of his political prominence and then far into the future.

WE can either get used to that or not.

Trayvon didn’t run from his aggressor when he was already at his dad’s house and easily could have. So, she is saying her son is at fault for attacking his perceived aggressor.

You have a problem with his being outspoken and gutsy?

His addressing this the way he did is what separates the men from the boys, the men from the good ol boys, and the men from the effeminate limp wristed GOPe and their intimidators across the aisle.

The reason I do not see it the way you do is that while I have the utmost respect for Ted Cruz, I also have the utmost respect (in the form of contempt) for the erosive and attack-based approach of those (and those in the media) who would like to destroy him. As intelligent as he is, he is *not* as skilled as they are in media manipulation. He just hasn’t been in it as long as they have.

When we see the Republicans question Sebelius with ZERO collective preparation in the form of a “talking points” question list, failing to concentrate on questions that, taken together, could possibly form a narrative, a storyline...we see what happens. They appear as harpies just trying to harrow their opponent, with little effect. And we know that this is how the media will attempt to portray them They had the opportunity to make a case, but whether because of individual grandstanding or just a total lack of strategy, they diffused their efforts. This is what we saw today. Poor strategy. I would have liked to see the so-called Republican “war on women” take the form of reducing Cruella to tears after that hearing. I would pay to see that.

Back to Cruz’ comments. There is not a single soul in the entire universe whose opinion of the Trayvon/Zimmerman affair is not set in stone settled. It is done. Thus there is nothing to be gained by him commenting. Ahhh, but there is something to lose, because now he can and will be portrayed as a pro-gun, anti-grieving-woman racist Republican. And those portrayals play directly into the standard liberal prejudices re: Trayvon/Zim that I just mentioned. It is an entanglement, a diversion. To the extent he has to explain his position a dozen more times, and he will gambitted into doing exactly that, it’s just a waste of effort.

But this is not the case wrt 0care. There are plenty of changeable minds on this topic and Cruz is a jewel of a representative of the anti-0care effort. Given that we have only one Cruz, only one Mike Lee, perhaps a total of 10 or 20 or 30 articulate anti-0care representatives in Congress, I don’t want these star players diverted into trivia. Trayvon Martin is trivia. To me, the wiser man stays out of this stupid little mudpit.

It is not enough to be able to see what is “next”. It is necessary to be able to see what is next-next and next-next-next. Personally, I am very bad at it.

I think Ted Cruz is capable of multitasking -- of playing multiple positions -- of swinging for the fences and hitting for average -- and having and giving intelligent informed opinnions on many subjects -- and he doesn't want or need to be stuffed in a box by himself or others.

What he had to say was timely and on the money especially given he is a member of that committee with a mouth and a brain and not a potted plant.

I don't know how many times I have to say this, Travon Martin was part of a “Polar Bear Hunting” club. Black youths consider a cracker a polar bear and the object of the game was to knowck down the Polar Bear with only one punch. You may have heard of the bus driver that Martin bragged about downing with one punch, that was the game.

Martin was a standard punk, a youth raised by people who hate whites for who knows what reason. Some blacks who cannot seem to get it together blame their below standard existence on white people that have held them back. That is the reason our president wants to ruin this country, it is simple punishment to whitey.

I'm one little old cracker who knows the score and is prepared to play the game, I suggest you be ready to play the game too. When law and order fall apart you WILL be a target.
