Why the Limbaugh/Krauthammer/Will Tiff is Healthy
American Thinker ^ | 10/30/2013 | C. Edmund Wright

Rush Limbaugh won't say it in so many words, but he (very correctly) called into question the discernment capabilities of Charles Krauthammer and George Will this week on his show. Rush insists he was "merely flabbergasted" at their slow to evolve perception of Barack Obama -- and was only using them as examples to make a bigger point. That notion doesn't really line up with his very words however.

Very clearly, Rush is somewhat irked that Dr. K and George Will were so badly bamboozled by Obama -- while so many of us racist 'rubes' never were. To be fair, the word "dupe" was not spoken, but I think a case can be made that it was indeed implied. Somewhere, I suspect Sarah Palin -- who was never confounded by Obama and yet was widely insulted by both of these luminaries - must be having a well-deserved laugh, too.

In case you missed it, this kerfuffle started Monday on Rush's show when he responded with incredulity to some quotes from Krauthammer on a Fox News Special prompted by his just released book, admitting he did not peg Obama until weeks after he took office. Dr. K said, "...you know, I haven't been able to figure this guy out. Is he a centrist who will occasionally throw a bone to the left or is he a lefty who will occasionally throw a bone to the right?" Nobody had any idea."

Well, yes, Dr. Krauthammer, some of us did have an idea of who he was.

Nicely done! Damn, these 'really smart guys' can be so dumb ... and slow. But better late than never I suppose.

This seems to happen to almost everybody who is isolated inside the beltway bubble for any length of time. Perhaps Dr. Krauthammer and Mr. Will should travel more in flyover country, instead of flying over it. They might learn something. I was struck this week as Will proudly insisted that "of course I want Obamacare to fail."

Dang, now old See Eddmund can’t be accused of self promotion.

Hope he’s giving you a cut of the proceeds.

Its amazing to me that any real conservative thinks George Will has any conservative cops all. He’s a phony Northeastern twerp with leather elbow patch blazers.

He blathers about baseball sometimes in order to “keep it real”.

Its ridiculous.

It’s hard to admit when you are wrong, but Will and Krauthammer better come to grips.
No matter how well written SOME of their articles are, nowadays I can hardly stomach reading them, and the same can be said about the boys at National Review.

Well, as you can see, I’ve been critical of Will here, and was over Robert’s ruling on Obama Care, and on other occasions too. Having said that, until the last 5-6 years or so, he was a good advocate on that ABC Sunday show for conservatism.

He’s not Rush or Levin, but he was pretty good, and he is an elegant writer. But to your point, I agree, no real conservative now would consider him anything other than a moderate estab thinker who is behind the real curve of conservatism now.

Yes, around 2008 election night was back when Krauthammer oohed and aahhed about how “elegant” Obama was. I pin Kraut’s downward spiral to late 2007 and early 2008...by Nov 08, he was lost.

Ayn Rand’s admonition in Atlas Shrugged was to ‘believe’ what a liberal says, and respond accordingly. He/she means what is said and for a conservative to come to the conclusion they ‘can’t possibly believe they what they profess’ leads to our defeat.

The comment on the site talks about white guilt. Interesting. Was thinking maybe also there was an expectation that there was some thanks owed by BO for being voted in and some obligation to really not screw up, while conservatives, being non racist, see what they see and understand through experience, not just through ideology, that character is independent of appearance

I don’t know

I do know this. I and the late women in my family, always consider character as a precursor to behavior and attitudes. It used to be the norm to discern.

I could see that a guy who showed no evidence of living this country and who demagogued and preyed on the lack of economic wisdom of the takers, with no evidence of sound economic wisdom of his own, was a very bad risk

That’s over and above his one achievement as rep in Illinois, the right for parent to kill their babies after birth

That’s all public record and, these days, who doesn’t make it their business to investigate our public officials, leaving it the media go inform us? Not i

There are different kinds of Conservatives. Fiscal Conservative, Social Conservative, Christian Conservative, Non Christian Conservative. It’s more complicated than we think.

I got the sense at the time that Krauthammer was more suspicious of McCain, which of course he doesn’t get nearly as much credit for, than infatuated with Obama.

Don't worry, if Kraut and Will see OBozo and his administration going down in flames, by some miracle, they will slide to the right and try to lead the parade.

Nah, Krauthammer was one of the many who were saying during the 07-08 primary fight that McCain was the “only choice” for the damaged Republican brand, and that Romney was “too conservative” on taxes and regulatory issues.

Kraut was a McCain cheerleader, and yet, bamboozled by obama nonetheless.

(yeah, I know, it’s hard to believe that about Mitt, but it’s true of 08. Then he went further left in the next four years.....our politics is full of damaging irony)

On point, as usual.

Dr. K and Will aren’t dumb. In fact, they are very smart, especially when it comes to maintaining the flow of cash to their pockets. There was no percentage in alienating their clients by calling Obama a socialist when that would have been considered an “extremist” remark. They are insiders who see things through the “Elitist Lens” anyhow, so they probably didn’t even think he was, personally.

These people are paid commentators, it is foolish to think of them as idealogues.

In the final weeks he was certainly negative on McCain’s ‘uncool’, disproportionate, crazed rush by to Washington response to the financial crisis.

I’m very sorry to say that Obama has lived up (down) to the expectations we had for him. Who here on Free Republic is surprised by any of things Obama has done? I confess to being a little amazed at his brazen attempts at stirring up racial turmoil. But I should have expected that as well.
