But, wasn’t Obama’s mother an American citizen?

To me the interpretation seems obvious. If you are in fact an American citizen at birth, then you're Natural Born.

I'm convinced that claims of Cruz's alleged ineligibility are a non-starter in legal circles, and I'm rather bewildered as to why they would be seized on in such apparently knee-jerk fashion.

It seems like a slam dunk to me. How is Cruz, an American citizen at and by birth, not Natural Born?

First, I believe the Constitution specifically delineates/notes/calls for a ‘natural born’ citizen as in Article II as compared to/from just ‘citizen’ in Article I as matter of facts. This delineation was purposeful and intended by the Framers. Second, I don’t believe it is knee-jerk to form an opinion based on ones own sincere look at the factors involved. Third, in my opinion Cruz’s family/heritage parallels Obama’s as to parentage and as such it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the future to the voting public as differentiated from political hide-and-seek by sides involved.

What I like is how the Trump phenomenon is preparing the electorate for Cruz.

I don’t think Trump lasts the six months until the first primary. But what he really does is hit home that business as usual is a corrupt, do-nothing swamp, and that regular, bland politician niceties are insufficient for getting done what needs to be done.

That leaves voters looking for someone else who has the appropriate impatience with business as usual, and who has demonstrated that he isn’t “one of them”. It makes Cruz’s tough stands against the senate leadership look heroic, and Cruz’s voice and rhetoric, however, still civil.

After Trump, how perfect! Cruz has been raising the money needed, is there in the running in the polls, and could pick up where Trump leaves off—looking the more refined and civil when he does so.

We haven’t seen the birth certificate for Cruz’s mother yet. Though he states she was born here, we need to see it.

Here’s a hit piece on it from Salon that lists all the problems - and is much amused given it’s the same issue raised about Obama.

Obama’s mother was an American citizen, but there were issues about her being from Hawaii and not a citizen for 10 years prior to Obama’s birth.

Main issue was that if Obama was born in Kenya, since both his parents were NOT American citizens, he was not eligible to run for president.

Now many of the folks that said that are saying Cruz is eligible because we like him.

I think it’s an issue for the Supreme Court to decide.

You want the Supreme Court involved so they can take out Cruz.

Sorry, not playing your game. You’re going to lose anyway.

1. The very first Congress, at its Second Session, proceeded to implement its power, under the Constitution’s Art. I, § 8, cl. 4, to “establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization” by producing the Act of March 26, 1790, 1 Stat. 103. That statute, among other things, stated,

“And the children of citizens of the United States, that may be born beyond sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens: Provided, That the right of citizenship shall not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident in the United States. . . .”

Salon or not. It’s the SAME issue Obama faced - and (possibly) defrauded Americans by being born in Kenya and his parents getting a B.C. after the fact.

It mattered then. It mattered now.

Cruz faces a serious challenge to his legal status to run.

Here’s long but well researched explanation:

I think you’re missing the point.

Obama was NOT eligible to run for the presidency because he was born outside the United States to a non-citizen Kenyan father and a mother (citizen but less than ten years).

There was a case a few years before Obama’s birth that made it clear he would NOT be even considered a citizen:

http://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-supreme-court/366/308.html

Obama’s mother came to Hawaii and, after the fact, obtained a birth certificate to complete the fraud.

That’s the BC we had months of controversy over that was never produced. Instead we got a made up document by the Hawaiian authorities.

Did you miss the entire ‘birther’ issue?

I actually believe in the rule of law and the Constitution. This is a serious issue.

I like Cruz’s policies. I hate Obama and voted against him. Twice. Campaigned against him.

But for those interested in what American law says about the issue of “natural born citizen” I’ve posted the links. I’m not attacking Cruz specifically. Nor will I ignore Constitutional issues for ANY candidate. I’m not a hypocrite.

This is an excellent article on the meaning of “natural born citizen”:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2840767/posts

I’m sure the present Supreme Court would expand 14th Amendment birthright to anyone born on U.S. soil (even if parents got here through fraud or illegally). They likewise would expand ‘natural born citizen’ to a broad meaning to allow future illegal kids to be able to occupy the White House for decades to come.

I’m ‘snarky’ because I care about our Constitution. If we aren’t a nation of laws, we’re living in a banana republic. Courts used to be a line of defense for liberty. Sadly our Republic has deteriorated.

Cruz is the most conservative of the candidates and I’d like to see him on the Supreme Court. Ideal spot for him, IMHO.

Off to bed. Sorry if I got upset.
