Neat!  We're starting the new week w/ stock futures up beat after last Friday's modest gains (Nasdaq and the S&P 500 tacked on 0.4%, while the IBD 50 retreated 0.5%. Volume rose on the Nasdaq and fell on the NYSE --investors.com).   Today's news:

“Federal employees will get paid just once—not twice— for not working.”

How can we be so heartless? Haven’t these people suffered enough?

Seriously (and for everyone here under 70) I’m getting into something here that nobody here’s ever told me about. So now the secret’s out, what do I do, when I do my next Monday post I just paste the same keywords “financial” WallStreet” “stockmarket” without changing ‘em the next week?

Indexes Mixed As Earnings Dominate Moves 10/28/2013 06:57 PM ET - The stock market closed narrowly mixed Monday, still flagging a bit following its run-up earlier this month. The Nasdaq eased 0.1% while the S&P 500 rose 0.1%. Volume rose on the NYSE and fell on the Nasdaq. It was a seesaw day for the market, all the while trading within a narrow price band. Proving yet again that Aussie is the strongest of the major ccys, an RBA governor (I think Stephens) gave a talk today about how the cost of production/export is not in line with $A, and therefore $A should go lower vs. the majors.

I believe the Yanks call this "jawboning the currency". in short, and facts aside, be careful through the end of the year with holding a long position in Aussie.

huh, beginning to understand why currency traders like what they do because what you’re saying is that the trader works with reality while the ccy is based on politics.

That match is always an easy one to take on. Just ask Soros...

I bought fxa a week ago and am now under water. Shoulda had more patience I guess. From what you’re saying, maybe the thing to do is sit on the sidelines until after Christmas.

See what the Fed says/does this week...
