Fourteen sick and elderly patients were abandoned at a Castro Valley assisted living facility when the staff apparently walked out Thursday after the state ordered the home closed, Alameda County sheriff's deputies said.

Paramedics called to Valley Manor Residential Care at 17926 Apricot Way on Saturday afternoon found a notice on the door from the state Department of Social Services ordering the site to be closed as of Oct. 24.

The incident is being treated as a criminal case, and the investigation is continuing.

I agree. Put everyone in the Department of Social Services behind bars.

You can tell a lot about a country from the way it treats its elderly.

The staff members who stayed, including a cook, a janitor and what is believed to be a single caretaker, "stayed because they felt bad for the patients," Nelson said. "They weren't getting paid or anything."

There still is hope for our world, although it seems to be dimming.

""All we know is that 14 people were left here today that shouldn't have been there by themselves," Nelson said."

California liberal compassion at its finest. Brings a tear to my eye.

You can’t blame Governor Moon Beam. He’s really busy right now pandering to illegal aliens and making sure they’ve got everything they want.

The Department of Social Services will probably file charges against them for violating the order closing the facility.

If there were any jobs for them at another facility that just went out the window. Our society rewards the worse and penalizes the best.

Yup. And if the charges were against me, the bowels of the earth would open and all sorts of hell would break loose. Those bureaucrats would come to their senses in the gutter (figuratively, of course), and wonder to themselves, “what in the heck just happened?”

Take them out in the desert, leave them a bowl of food and water, then leave them.

That is how it was done in the Halcyon days before the Evil white man came on the scene back in 1492.

You are absolutely correct. They no were no longer employed and had no official business there. At best, it’s felony criminal trespass. At worst, if any of those residents were injured or otherwise had their condition deteriorate during the trespass, elder abuse charges would be in order. Those three former employees are just darned lucky none of those residents died during that period of time, or it would be at least involuntary manslaughter. And no, I’m not kidding about any of that.

Kudos to the two former staffers who defied the DSS order and stayed at their post. I hope they get rewarded.

They are like the patriots who violated Obama’s hateful closings.

This really ticks me off!

My great grand-parents both lived to in their nineties. My grandfather helped them anyway he could. In doing so , I learned valuable lessons. Being frugal does not mean being deprived. They taught me gardening which included composting, canning, repairing items rather than tossing and buying new, sewing, but most important was the respect of my elders.

My gain and unfortunately many people today their loss.
