New Russian ICBM Test Fuels Worries Over Violation of 1987 Missile Treaty
Washington Free Beacon ^ | October 24, 2013 | Bill Gertz

Russia’s latest flight of a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile this month appears to be another circumvention of a 1987 nuclear missile accord, U.S. officials and private arms specialists said.

A test of what the Pentagon calls the SS-25 road-mobile Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) took place Oct. 10 and traveled less than 2,000 miles, indicating it could be a missile banned by the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

Russia’s military also failed to notify an international group set up in 2002 to prevent missile proliferation called the Hague Code of Conduct about the test.

The flight test two weeks ago was the fourth time in the past two years that Russia has carried out a missile launch that appears to violate or undermine the INF treaty, which bans nuclear missiles with ranges of between 500 kilometers and 5,500 kilometers.

The latest test prompted one U.S. official to question the administration’s continued pursuit of arms agreements with Moscow.

“Why do they continue to pursue talks when Russia is violating treaties,”

Since when did the Russians EVER abide by an arms control treaty?

No worries. We’re going to totally dismantle our military, eliminate our nuclear stockpiles, and continue with the social experimentation throughout the military to show to the world how to do things.

I’m certain Russia, Iran, and China will then see our example and jump right in to follow our wise and enlightened way. Now, wether they do this before or after they decimate us is the only question remaining.

Oh, hail Obama and yea Liberals. How wise are your ways.

These days, the Russians are far more likely to use an IRBM against China than NATO.

Maybe Obama will bring the subject up next time he is talking to Putin about the much more important Olympics homo issues. Then, maybe not.

Yawn. Bill Gertz needs better material. The US identified its threats and negated the ABM treaty.

The Russians know who their enemies are and it ain’t Europe...and certainly not the US in regards to developing theater delivery vehicle/warhead combinations...

They “use to” pretend to comply.

Now, with Obama’s example of doing as he pleases, irrespective of the law, and his completely toothless foreign policy, Russia has no reason to worry about “compliance”.

If we had a real president and not a muslim that wants to unilaterally disarm our Nuclear forces... we would have been developing and updating all of our systems.

>>>Since when did the Russians EVER abide by an arms control treaty?<<<

They are free to do if they want. I don’t know who was right or wrong during the Cold War but since this missile shield in Poland declared a decade ago it is pure hypocrisy to call Russians cheaters.

If US is willing to use agreements as a toilet paper why Russians won’t?

The original START under GHW Bush and the new START under Obama(2010) required 67 votes in the Senate. As I recall, the 2010 votes was over 80.

The issue here is an article written by a NeoCon and published in NeoCon magazine.

The freepers seem to be acting bizzare. Just a few weeks ago all the freepers were acting like isolationists, not neocons.

You must have misunderstood our intent. Being against interventions not in OUR best interest is not tantamount to being an isolationist. Want to invade syria... I will stand against it... want to nuke iran... I am with you. See how that works?

The “INF” was signed with the Soviet Union, not “Russia” as it is today, and therefore, can be argued, that it is null and void!!

See how the Senate Foreign Relations Committee works?

In May the committee voted 15 to 3 to arm the Syrian Rebels. In Sept the committee voted 10-8 to bomb Syria.

Now that the election is over, barry has more flexibility with Russia.
