Chino, California
Three children were injured by shrapnel after a fellow elementary school student pulled the trigger of an assault rifle mounted on a police motorcycle during a school assembly, authorities said.
The AR-15 was locked to the side of the motorcycle that was on display at Newman Elementary School on Wednesday during an anti-drug program when a student managed to fire it, Chino police spokeswoman Tamrin Olden said.

Do CA police leave AR-15s mounted on their motorcycles with full magazines? Is that standard procedure?
How about "Negligent cop fails to secure his firearm safely".
Maybe only when they enter one of today’s schools....
let’s leave an AR-15 rifle attached to a motorcycle unattended with a full magazine in the presence of children...what can possibly go wrong?
If the kid (and the cop) had gone through the NRA’s Eddie Eagle program this wouldn’t have happened.
A generation of children who are ignorant of weapons, the taming of the sheep.
“Do CA police leave AR-15s mounted on their motorcycles with full magazines? Is that standard procedure?”
With one on the chamber and the safety off none the less!!!
I’ve never seen a MC cop with any long gun.
Apparently not. A crumb cruncher put his booger hook on the bang switch.
Those kids should ALL be taught Col. Cooper's 4 Rules, but they won't. It's a government school.
Get your kids outta there, people. There are options.
I can’t imagine a police motorcycle gun mount that wouldn’t fully cover and protect the trigger. Don’t their holsters have to be level 3 protected retention holsters?
Here:
I understand keeping a weapon loaded on duty. However, there has to be a way to secure the weapon to the motorcycle. After all, in the performance of his/her duties the rider may be called upon to leave the bike for extended periods of time. No way they want someone to be able to walk up and take the rifle.
Whatever holster/scabbard it is secured in it has to protect the trigger and operating controls (safety). That is just a fundamental characteristic of a holster. There are very few exceptions to this, very very few cases where you want and can use a holster that doesn't protect the trigger. (the velcro loop holster inside my 5.11 tac vest comes to mind)
Finally, when going to put on a demonstration you would ensure, and I mean first rule of firearms safety, you would be sure the weapon was unloaded before being made available to untrained people. This is so fundamental, so drilled into everyone it is inconceivable that a trained person would not do it.
So when I consider these things this looks like an impossible situation. That is impossible to bring about "accidentally." This smells like an intentional setup to cause children to be hurt by an AR style weapon at a school. That's all we're hearing. The LEO part is downplayed. All people will remember is school, kids, AR... Look for the officer to get fired but maybe quietly be taken care of with a consulting/security job somewhere else. This whole thing stinks.
Because every motorcycle cop NEEDS an AR-15.
Cops should stick to their assigned duties:
Raising money for the welfare state from innocent civilians attempting to legally go about their day.
“lets leave an AR-15 rifle attached to a motorcycle unattended with a full magazine in the presence of children...what can possibly go wrong?”
At least the cop didn’t take it out of the mount ....

i wouldn’t say they’re ignorant of weapons. not with all the violent video games and tv programs out there. it’s just that they only get the bad side of the firearm debate pushed out onto them. they never see the positive side. that’s the brainwashing
So the gun was firing at the school, huh?
How about “Negligent cop fails to secure his firearm safely”.
PUHLEEZE! Everyone knows that the evil gun was just waiting for the best possible moment to fire itself. All guns are evil, ban them now! (do I have to tag it?)
And obviously the “select fire” switch set to 3 rd burst.
(something illegal for “civilians”)
