Family of first ever Arab honoured for saving a Jew from Nazis rejects prize - b/c they hate Israel

Orig. Title:

The Arab Schindler: Family of first ever Arab honoured for saving a Jew from Nazis rejects prize… because they hate Israel

The family of the first ever Arab honoured for saving a Jew from the Nazi Holocaust and helping others with medical treatment have rejected the accolade because of their hatred for Israel.

Egyptian doctor Mohamed Helmy was honored posthumously last month by Israel’s Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem for hiding a Jew in Berlin during wartime.

The 'Righteous Among the Nations' award is the highest Israel can bestow upon non-Jews in recognition for helping people to survive the genocide - at great personal risk - which claimed six million lives.

But the family of the heroic doctor - the first Muslim ever to be recognised for his bravery in such a way - say they want nothing to do with it.

'If any other country offered to honor Helmy, we would have been happy with it,' said Mervat Hassan, the wife of Helmy’s great-nephew.  'But not from Israel. I do, however, respect Judaism as a religion, and I respect Jews. Islam recognizes Judaism as a heavenly religion.'

Dr Helmy died in 1982. After the war, he stayed in Germany with his fiancée whom he married.  His Egyptian relatives sometimes visited, including a great nephew and his wife who now rejects the award on behalf of surviving relatives.

Where does one even begin in responding to this sort of utter madness?  I'm guessing that this "family" will not be so quick to reject medical treatments developed by Israeli doctors.

“But not from Israel. I do, however, respect Judaism as a religion, and I respect Jews. Islam recognizes Judaism as a heavenly religion.”

Yet the scripture of Judaism declares the land of Israel to be the eternal inheritance of the Jews. Her cognitive dissonance must be painful. Either that, or she doesn’t bother to read.

That's a pretty decent think for an Egyptian Muslim to say, if truthful. It's very understandable that the Arab world feels Israel was foisted upon them.

The Righteous among the Nations award - am I the only one who feels that there is something rather patronizing about that? One of you saved one of us? Yes, there is honor and gratitude, and yes, there are centuries of them and us. But still, something grates a bit about the words.

As a Muslim, she doesn’t believe that Jewish scripture, or Christian scripture for that matter, was set down correctly as Allah wished it to be, but corrupted for human purposes. For a Muslim, the Books of the People of the Book are only partially true.

Accepting it would get them killed.

I have a feeling that these folks are not turning this award down because they hate Jews, but because they are frightened that if they accept it they will be killed by their fellow Egyptians.

#6, #7 and #8, had exactly the same reaction I did. They may not so much hate Israel as fear their neighbors.

Or is it they fear they would be killed if they accepted it?

Such an explanation begs the question of what is this Judaism that she respects, and who practices it? If she’s referring an imagined faith with no extant canon and no living practitioners, her declaration of “respect” is disingenuous.

Indeed, not only does the Bible repeatedly testify to God giving the Promised Land to the Jews ... indeed this is one of the major Bible themes.....along with the Jews’ returning to their Promised Land, .... but Koran also recognizes these matters. For instance, The Koran teaches that God has given the land to the Jews:

“And [remember] when Moses said to his people: ‘O my people, call in remembrance the favour of G-d unto you, when he produced prophets among you, made you kings, and gave to you what He had not given to any other among the peoples. O my people, enter the Holy Land which G-d has assigned unto you, and turn not back ignominiously, for then will ye be overthrown, to your own ruin.’” (Koran 5:20-21)

and that the God would gather up the Jews and return them to their Promised Land...

“And thereafter We [Allah] said to the Children of Israel: ‘Dwell securely in the Promised Land. And when the last warning will come to pass, we will gather you together in a mingled crowd.” (Koran 17:104)

and so forth.

This may be why some people keep trying to argue that the current Islamicist terrorism, murders, and hostility to Christians and Jews (and nearly everybody else for that matter).... is a perversion of “true” Islamism. But alas, there are also Koran passages that teach its followers to subjugate or kill Christians and Jews.

So, the IslamoNazis pick the hate-filled passages and ignore the ones that teach them that Christians and Jews are people of the Book and in covenant or connection with God, and that Israel is part of God’s plan.

And it seems the IslamoNazis are ruling the roost in the world of Islam these days. A scourge on the world, perhaps the worst, most widespread Satanic outbreak in history....

We must be strong and of good courage...

“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

“Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness...Ephesians 6:14

“”Now, gird up your loins and arise, and speak to them all which I command you. Do not be dismayed before them, or I will dismay you before them.... Jeremiah 1:17
