Technical difficulties are still plaguing the federal website for health insurance sign up, but that hasn't stopped dozens of Charleston's homeless residents from signing up for health insurance over the last two weeks.
The non-profit agency has a drop-in center for homeless people, some of whom live outside or in shelters.
As trained community assisters, Herlihy and other Covenant House staffers were supposed to connect their clients to other helpers that were to actually lead people through the application process.
But directing their clients, many of whom have mental illnesses, to other agencies would have been more difficult than leading them through the application process themselves, Herlihy said.
"We were [supposed to be] to be community assistors, but how could we not [help enroll them] when it's just that easy, and it is that easy," she said.

Forward comrades!! Medicaid for all!! Call it Affordable Care comrades!! Heil Obama!! Do not forget to register these vermin as democrats!
How many will actually be paying in to the system? I thought so.
And, ah, how much are these homeless people’s monthly premiums and what are their co-pays? Any information on that?
And deductibles?
Something wrong here...Even 0bamacare isn’t 100% free. Homeless people with subsidizes would still have to pay *something*?
What sort of coverage do they have?
How will they pay whatever amount they have to pay?
I don’t recall any free healthcare plans.
More than likely, these turds signed them up for Medicaid. ObamaCare is bad but I don’t believe they have a jalopy plan that goes for free.
It probably is a simple process if you have no income, assets or savings.
"At this point, what difference does it make? We just need enrollment numbers!"
Likely the case with these people.
Who is paying their premiums?
Don’t answer, it’s a rhetorical question..
Question? If the ones that sign up for this crap are the ones referenced in this article & they basically get Obummercare for free (premiums), then what happens when they try to use their usual primary care - emergency rooms & can’t afford the co-pays, deductabiles etc? I haven’t really analyzed the plans so apologies for not knowing specifics about the subsidized plans.
I mean, it’s not like these people are going to start seeing a primary doctor, right?
Here’s how this worked. These morons filled out an application for state Medicaid and faxed it to the local welfare office for processing. A lot of “behavioral health” joints do this every day. This is BS.
Got it! so, Medicaid on steroids. They just expanded Medicaid & that’s about it.
Do they still get the $58 commission, or whatever the amount is?
Expanded Medicaid is part of the whole Obamacare package.
Even in states which haven’t formally expanded it, they have relaxed some of the regulations.
And this is why its going to be very difficult to say the least to get rid of the program. Possibly millions more people getting a free ride that voe.
Lot’s of people sign up on line for credit card offers. It’s the paying of the bill that’s problematic.
And we're not even talking about that 30 to 60 million illegal aliens the buffoons on Capitol Hill are getting ready to give amnesty to for breaking our laws. Hold on to your wallet! This is going to get very, very ugly.
These people sound like they were probably already eligible for medicaid-homeless and mentally ill. Even if they weren’t, insuring 100 people will not offset the DSH cuts and hardly justifies all the drama forced upon us. In order for Obamacare to not be a disaster, millions of people need to be insured.
