In the generators. Could easily be a few hundred pounds. Maybe even some gold and silver, too.

The abandoned wind turbines in that picture are a small part of a much larger abandoned wind farm on the south tip of the Big Island of Hawaii. Across the United States alone, there are more than 14,000 abandoned LARGE wind turbines like these. Go to Bing or Google images and key in abandoned wind farms to see more. Most of them are leaking oil. The green energy companies talk the land owners into a lease and understate the decommissioning costs and then file for bankruptcy once the government subsidies end.

Bing or Google abandoned wind farms for good reading, and the same under Bing or Google images. There 14,000 abandoned wind turbines across the US. Europe has the same problem.

Those are the remains of the Kamaoa Wind Farm at South Point (Ka Lae) in the Big Island. The operation went bankrupt and the owners walked away from it, never giving a thought to clean up or decommissioning. The State of Hawaii had to go to court to get the place declared a public nuisance in order to haul away the junk. Of course, the taxpayers got stuck with the bill for that.
I have stood at the shoreline at Ka Lae and looked out over 7000 miles of open ocean before you reach Antarctica, and the wind there is strong enough to blow you off the cliffs if you're not careful. Trees grow sideways because of the force of the wind. If windpower can't make it there, it probably can't make it anywhere (without huge taxpayer subsidies and feed-in tariffs and must-take laws on the books, like they have now).
