those were the elites or ones with family connections to them. in poor nations the rulers are fat/chubby and they rule over the under nourished skinnies

Fat is a sign of dominance and prosperity in the turd world

“Junk food is cheaper than good food here, that isn’t true in Africa or South America.”

That is true in restaurants but not supermarkets; I feel so old when I see the prices on cupcakes and similar crap and can’t believe people pay that much for them.

I’ve always thought Obama just spoke to black people whenever he addresses “the nation”; after many years of working with black people I realize his large wife’s “fitness campaign” is also directed at them. Proportionally they are much more overweight than white co-workers (and I work with some whites that make The Grimace look petite), and watching some of them eat (even after they’ve been hospitalized with weight issues) is eye-opening.

I suspect that as the number of single parent families increases this problem will only grow. Ironically, the food programs encourage single parent households by the government assuming the responsibilities of family support.

Mr. Valentine, 52, is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served for eight years. He is now homeless and unemployed, and he told IPS that he relies on food stamps for all his meals.

Cleverly avoided the real story. He also is very likely on TANF, Section 8 (or waiting list), possible UIC and gets EITC (several thousand/year) in addition to his SNAP.

Next up is to claim some sort of malady and claim SSDI for him and SSI for his daughter.

It likely is. Last year’s SNAP cost $74.6 Billion for 46.6 Million people. Democrats and liberals ALWAYS term a cut in the rate of planned (DC customary) increase a CUT!

Dollar wise, I’d expect the total amount will not be reduced one penny. Whiners all.

Here in West TX theres jobs available everywhere, the unemployment in this county hovers at 4% yet 25% of the total population is on food stamps. The local McDonalds has a help wanted sign out offering 14 dollars an hour and the oilfields are running 16 to 18 an hour and can’t fill the spots. So I scratch my head trying to figure out why we have so many on welfare when my wife who’s the ER Director at the local hospital explained it. She said 90+% of the people coming into the ER were single unemployed women with children on welfare and they flip out their medicaid cards like it insurance.

Some of the local grocery stores have now taken to asking you (if you pay in cash and have change coming back) if you would like to donate your change to a local food charity, “Hunger Task Force.” The first time they asked me that I was surprised and mumbled “yeah, I guess.” The next time they asked me, I said no, I want my change. The woman at the register gave me a somewhat surprised look. Believe me, nobody is starving in my part of the country. The main problem as I see it for many people is being able to walk with their huge bellies.

Government “charity” must end! The truly needy will be better and honorably served by private charity. Taking money from taxpayers at gunpoint to pay for SNAP is disgraceful, immoral, and unconstitutional.

Do a lot of people need foodstamps? Yes. Are a lot of people abusing the system? Yes. So maybe if the government went to work to combat the later ones then they could provide those who really need it with the benefits they depend on for less money than we currently pay?

It’s still just a “Bill”, passed in the republican house, it will never make it throughg the rat Senate, much less the rat president.

A bag of potatoes costs about the same as a bag of potato chips. A container of real oats is cheaper than a box of cereal. We just bought a #3 bag of apples for around $2.50, which is about the cost of a jug of apple juice. Sure some things are expensive, but when you don’t buy soda and frozen pizzas one can eat quite healthy for less than the cost of junk food.

The methods you describe are used by intelligent people with good impulse control. Something that does not describe the average member of the underclass.

“The methods you describe are used by intelligent people with good impulse control. Something that does not describe the average member of the underclass.”

The methods described are used by people spending money they earned, something that doesn’t apply to the average member of the permanent underclass. I’ve seen hood rats with sneakers that are worth more than my old car; at the end of the day I go to my home and they to a filthy tenement.

“Here in West TX theres jobs available everywhere, the unemployment in this county hovers at 4% yet 25% of the total population is on food stamps.”

The two are not mutually exclusive; I’m sure adults working low-wage jobs qualify for food stamps.

In terms of the unfilled positions: Why do so many people live in Detroit? Because they heard there were no jobs there...

Sorry, but many of those of food stamps are a hell of a lot better off than those who have to work for a living.

Sorry go find more work I shouldn't have to support you. 180 dollars well by lots of rice, flour, potatoes ect.

If you don't have enough work to keep you busy in you chosen profession you have time to work for some one else.

At $7.35 and hr that's only about 25 hours of work so if you worked at a minimum wage job you would only need to work 50 to double your food income.

I’ll be 62 years old in four months and live in an area with 25% unemployment. That’s why no one will hire me.

In the mean time, I’m self employed and trying to make my way.

Thanks for the advice.
