Its easy to act on pure principle if you dont have to win elections. Look at Barry Goldwater. He decided he had to be consistent, because if theres one thing people vote on, its absolute consistency! In pursuit of purist libertarianism, Goldwater voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act because of its restrictions on private businesses. He then went on to lose in a 44-state landslide. (The above remark about voters demanding consistency was ironic.)
Republicans woke up, got their act together, and won five of the next six presidential elections.
Recently, however, some of us noticed that national Republican committees have turned themselves into a Get-Rich-Quick scheme for political consultants. Instead of winning elections, a lot of consultants were more interested in lining their own bank accounts. Consequently, instead of making carefree arguments about privatizing lighthouses, the conservative chattering class had to add "electing Republicans to their resumes because the party organizations had stopped doing that and somebody had to.
So far, the results have been catastrophic.
Polemicists are terrific at changing public discourse. Theyre great at introducing new ideas into the intellectual bloodstream. Theyre very, very bad at winning elections.
The only group worse at winning elections is the entire Republican consultant class, i.e., the people whose job it is to win elections....

Did Ann Coulter mention Karl Rove’s name in the book?
this idiot supports Mitchy judas McConnell !
she is dead to me.
Beck kicked her off his show this morning. She was taking up for mcconnell and she called us all Conspiracy Theorists. Glenn was furious and thanked her for her call and dropped her like a hot potato(e) (for Dan Quayle).
LLS
Is that a picture of her as a child?
Yep, 8 years old, with her big brothers.
Yeah she is a pill and she makes money by saying how bad republicans are but she likes most of them. maybe I should write a book it is all a game to all the people. Screw us over and write a book about it.
I am no fan of hers, but I sure agree with the sentiment. Fox News and the pundits have hoodwinked us way too long.
(And before anyone says anything ... I feel the EXACT same way about the other Networks).
Coulter has zero credibility now. Gone. Flown the coop. She’s a babe “brand,” connected the political right. That’s about the extent of it.
LOL! Looks like a cotillion pic.
How does she screw us over? She is a bomb throwing author who states her opinion.
She doesn’t represent the republican party, she isn’t a mover or shaker and she doesn’t set policy.
It’s funny. For years it was “pictures please and you know the rules.” One day a couple of years ago she gave a speech to the log cabin Republicans and all of a sudden everyone hated her.
Meanwhile everyone conveniently forgot that she said she was a friend to the homosexuals as far back as 2002.
Good for Beck...she is a shyster....Oh..and buy her book....What does she care?
It was her pushing of Christie and Romney that poisoned her good will here.
It’s just a game to these people and the most important aspect of this game is that it must continue uninterrupted.
Just my opinion. She makes her money on politics just like many do and I will throw Newt Gingrich in there as well.
What is the point of reading their books about how bad the left is or how bad the right is I already know. All it does is make them a little richer while I become poorer.
Honestly I am just sick of everything and everyone associated with politics.
I expect she’ll be a regular host on a gleeful MSNBC any day now.
Good riddance.
And they do it extremely well.
