Sorry, Kids. We Ate It All.
NYT ^ | 10/15/13 | THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN

Eventually this shutdown crisis will end. And eventually the two parties will make another stab at a deal on taxes, investments and entitlements. But there’s one outcome from such negotiations that I can absolutely guarantee: Seniors, Wall Street and unions will all have their say and their interests protected. So the most likely result will be more tinkering around the edges, as our politicians run for the hills the minute someone accuses them of “fixing the deficit on the backs of the elderly” or creating “death panels” to sensibly allocate end-of-life health care. Could this time be different? Short of an economic meltdown, there is only one thing that might produce meaningful change: a mass movement for tax, spending and entitlement reform led by the cohort that is the least organized but will be the most affected if we don’t think long term — today’s young people.

By the numbers that show they are staying away from signing up in droves to fund Obamacare, I think that is highly unlikely. We who are in our seventies and have worked all of our lives have funded every cockamimi piece of crap that has come out of Congress and the various administrations for over 50 years.

...creating “death panels” to sensibly allocate end-of-life health care.

It is truly frightening to think how the Red-Chinese-loving Friedman would allocate end-of-life health care. Just leave the seniors out in the wilderness for the wolves? Or more humane euthanasia? I tell you, I am very worried about where we are headed. And all the talking heads and intelligentsia better be careful or the killing fields are gonna look like a church social in retrospect.

"as our politicians run for the hills the minute someone accuses them of ... creating “death panels” to sensibly allocate end-of-life health care."

This sentence makes me want to vomit. Remember the good old days when politicians had absolutely nothing to ****ing do with any kind of healthcare. And when DEATH PANELS were not even thought of, let alone referred as a "sensible allocation of healthcare!"

Until the left got its filthy little...hands, on America, there was no such thing as the government "allocating" anything. If you worked hard, you got ahead. Instead now we have a government that wants to "allocate" everything, including life and death.

What happened to us?

Look at the upside.
Death Panels are the fix for SocSec and Medicare funding.
It’s an ugly fix but a probable one and likely will work.
When the kids whine about grandma’s early demise, the regime will toss out some student loan forgiveness coupons.

This ball is now rolling down hill. There will be no turning back. It’s like a fire that gets big enough to feed itself. Now that over 50% of voters depend on government for at least part of their livelihood, and since we are about to add another few million liberals to the voting pools through amnesty, this ride has the throttle balls pushed to the wall and there are no wings. Now that Uncle Sam has all control over individual behavior, business, income and justice, we are just along for the ride.

NYT, there will be no entitlement reform in our lifetimes unless you consider tax increases “reform”. The debt will only be affected by the devaluation of the dollars that were loaned. The government is now including its own spending in our GDP (Even though they “produce” nothing).

Parents need to change the way we raise our kids. Teach them to capitalize on the shameless victim status and grab what they can from Uncle Sam while still exploiting their own talents and hiding their treasures. Find the loopholes and crush anyone who stands in your way of success. Screw the little guy. He’s got the government on his side.

Too late, Dumbass! The demographics have completely overtaken the possibility of this ever happening. Well at least for the next 40 years. The idiot young voting for socialist have eaten their own and their young. Hope the enjoy the sheer poverty that are foisting upon themselves. The worm has turned....and they were singing, “Bye bye Miss American pie...”

Gen Y’ers have been told all their lives that “You’re Special”, now they’ll realize that really means they’re special enough to get the bill.

The country’s goin’ to hell faster than when that sonofabitch Roosevelt was in charge. Too much cheap money sloshing around the world. The worst mistake we ever made was letting Nixon get off the gold standard

“...creating “death panels” to sensibly allocate end-of-life health care.”

stonewall, you signed up here this month. Are you for “death panels to sensibly allocate end-of-life health care”? Yes or No.

Lots "happened", but first our education system was turned into unionized garbage.

You can’t eat cookies that haven’t been baked yet. At some point our kids and grandkids will just say “We didn’t spend it, and we won’t pay for it”, and default.

At some point our kids and grandkids will figure they have nothing to lose. General tax strike like Greece. Can’t put them all in jail.

Can’t put them all in jail.

The coming total administration will have no problem
with that. It will come as a big surprise to the
children of the revolution, but it always does.

How about putting the old folks on ice floes and let them drift away, a la the Eskimos. That worked pretty good, don't you think?

I get your humor, though.

no. but i think the #1 priority in this country needs to be balancing the budget. that cannot be done without controlling costs in SS and medicare. medicare will be broke in 2025 or so. there are four options:

#1 raise medicare taxes
#2 cut medicare spending
#3 a combination of spending cuts and tax hikes
#4 borrow more from the communists in peking

which do you choose?
