According to The Washington Post, Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler regularly ordered state troopers who were assigned to chauffer him around to turn their lights and sirens on while en route to routine appointments. He also directed them to bypass traffic by using the shoulder, run red lights and speed.
Some troopers actually refused to comply. But, the Attorney General wouldnt let a simple thing like the law get in his way.
As noted in the story, Gansler simply turned on the lights and sirens on his own in many cases and took the wheel in others. He even reportedly ran four red lights in one case.
According to Lieutenant Charles Ardolini, commander of the state police executive protection section, in a 2011 memo, This extremely irresponsible behavior is non-stop and occurs on a daily basis. Attorney General Gansler has consistently acted in a way that disregards public safety, our Troopers safety and even the law.
Of course, Gansler has denied the allegations. He claims they are the result of animosity between him and his accuser.

Seen on TV and a blast from the past—one of Gansler’s supporters is long ago defeated anti-gun former US Senator from Maryland Democrat Joe Tydings. I had thought that Joe had passed away long ago.
On the other hand, does MD have a trooper’s union? If so, I smell B/S.
Another democrat politician abusing his powers by using state troopers. Guess he was taught how to by Bill Clinton.
Wasnt the near death accident of the NJ gov who insisted on speeding and breaking traffic laws enough of a warning ???
Why shouldn’t he , that’s normal procedure for cops when they have a “take home” car.
Gansler is dreaming about as hard as Owe-Malley.
Neither has a prayer.
Ladies and Gentlemen: Our Next Governor, DOUG GANSLER!
Oh, wait, what??? He died in a car wreck while running a red light?
OK, never mind.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
