Was this the the transports who circled the Pacific with supplies and personnel transfers ?

They were built in the 1940s as troop carriers. As our footprint expanded in Asia and Europe after the war, the ships were converted to carrying troops below decks forward and aft with NCO and above and their families stacked in tiny staterooms mid ship.
A trip from Seattle to Yokohama took 14 days.
