Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed a bill that would have banned future sales of most semi-automatic rifles that accept detachable magazines, part of a firearms package approved by state lawmakers in response to mass shootings in other states.

The governor announced signing other gun-related legislation on Friday but rejected the centerpiece bill, which would have imposed the nation’s toughest restrictions on gun ownership.

I have a feeling that there are a LOT of gun manufacturers in Calipornia, which Moonbeam knows he can't afford to lose.

Even Leftists worship the almighty dollar above all.

Some of that Rocky Mountain Recall High must be wafting its way from CO and causing Moonbeam to buckle.

Notwithstanding Section 30510, “assault weapon” also means any of the following:
(1) A semiautomatic centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept no more than 10 rounds.
(2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.
(3) A semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
(A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer.
(B) A second handgrip.
(C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning the bearer’s hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel.
(D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.
(4) A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
(5) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
(A) A folding or telescoping stock.
(B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
(6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
(7) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

I'm pretty sure he favors both those bills but he's trying to protect the Kali 'Rat party from itself.

Could have been worried about losing control of the legislature.

He also let illegal aliens get driver’s licenses and practice law. And signed “coat hanger” abortions into law.

It’s amazing how fast California is passing new and awful bills. This is what you get when you don’t have gridlock. This is what you get when government “gets things done.” And, boy, does it suck.

“First he vetoes an anti-fracking bill,”

That one is truely about revenue for the state. Lots of money flowing into the coffers from oil production.

He also vetoed the bill that would have allowed aliens to serve on juries. As I said on the thread about that veto, he is the sanest Democrat in Sacramento (although that is something like being the tallest mountain in Kansas).

Brown would have loved to sign this bill but the real reason Gov. Brown vetoed it is because it would have immediately made a few million Kalifornicans criminal felons and the state’s prisons are already full and 30+% of those prisoners are illegals. It also could have something to do with recall petitions waiting to hit the streets.

The last time the state declared millions of legal gun owners criminals, the 'criminals' ignored the law's mandate to register or turn in their 'assault' weapons.

I recall under Gov. Pete Wilson, AG Dan Lungren implemented a mandated registration for the SKS and with in two years that fire arm was outlawed and for those who followed the law and registered them, they had to turn them in.
