The need to get along is overwhelming for most.

Even as confrontational as I am, after serving a few years on a city board found myself going along to get along, at which point (after realizing it) I resigned.

When you will no longer stand up on principle, you should resign and let fresh blood continue the fight

It takes an unusually virtuous man to risk his livelihood over principles. Senators consider their stations as personal property, theirs to keep for as long as they wish.

Good on you. Is it fair to say the go-along current that carried you downstream is endemic to reelected politicians, regardless of party?
