Still can’t be as bad as Austin. I feel like my neighborhood is a lone outpost here. It’s the people who drive straight to downtown after their flight arrives from LA who are the problem. I get the feeling that a lot of them are a little leery of striking out across the open prairie of Texas ‘cause you just don’t know what you might find out there. It’s scary, you know, guns ‘n all.

Not only guns but Indians and people circling wagons around a campfire.

Talked with a guy at BC in Dallas this week. He is slightly over 50, has lived in Dallas his whole life and has never been to the Hill Country or the Gulf and didn’t know they had trees in East Texas. Said the Hill Country was too far and he didn’t think there was anything out there worth seeing.

When my daughter was alive one Saturday a month we’d pack a go bag and take off in the car in one direction or the other without a map and never drove on the freeway. If we saw an interesting road we’d go exploring. Such a wonderful state we live in and so many awesome things to see.
