$175 premium for a young, healthy student? Thanks, Obamacare!

American media outlets were finally able to track down a mythical creature — a person who actually signed up for the Obamacare exchanges online.

But that person, Chad Henderson, admitted to the Washington Post that the premium for the plan he enrolled in was $175. Ouch! Wasn’t Obamacare supposed to lower premiums?

Henderson’s going to pay a $175 premium and he won’t even receive vision or dental insurance. He has contacts, so not having vision insurance is kind of a bum deal.

Henderson, as far as we know a healthy, 21-year-old college student at Chattanooga State Community College who lives in Flintstone, Ga., and works part-time at a day-care center, did not qualify for tax credits to purchase insurance, according to the Post.

Without Obamacare, Henderson could have received health insurance for as little as $44.72 on eHealthInsurance.com, according to Michael F. Cannon of the Cato Institute.

“I can’t yet say whether Chad’s $175 premium is the lowest-cost plan available to him through the Obamacare Exchange,” Cannon said. “[I’m in the process of researching that, and it’ll probably take a few hours.] But it’s probably close.”

Not a surprise. Someone has to pay for the freebies. Hopefully the young will adjust withholding to avoid paying the fine and pass on govmed.

And now that this poor kid has signed up, he’ll be hounded for the rest of his life for more and more premiums - or fines - or tax liens on his home [if he can find a job and qualify for a mortgage.]

Poor sumbiche

Hold on here. This kid is only 21. Why isn’t he still on his parents’ insurance? Could it be possible that his parents no longer have insurance because they’ve lost their jobs in the lousy Obama economy?

Works part time and yet doesn’t qualify for a subsidy? Guess he’ll just have to quit his job then, or work under the table. It will be the new norm.

Parents don’t have to carry their adult kids on their plans. That aside, why no mention of deductible and out of pockets expenses? This so called kid is not even going to come close to getting anything covered for himself.

Just as a basis for comparison....

I currently pay $338.00 month for 26 year old woman with and 8 year old daughter, both healthy with no preexisting conditions, for a Blue Cross policy with a $5000 deductible.

what happens if like a million people refuse to sign up?
and those people take action, say civil disobenance.
I guess those FEMA camps will come in handy.

The health insurance plan I bought for my son started at $166 per month. It is now $233 per month, thanks to Obamacare mandates (which the insurance companies have already added in to prepare for Obamacare).

“Does that policy cover dental and vision?”

Nope neither and it doesn't cover prescriptions until the $5000 deductible is met..
